The Ultimate Fighter: Team Rampage vs Team Forrest - Episode 2 Recap

By Thomas Gerbasi

CAUTION: SPOILERS INCLUDED Eight up and coming middleweights have fought their way onto the seventh season of The Ultimate Fighter reality series. Eight more will join them this week in rounding out the cast, but they’ll have to do it the hard way.

There’s no time for pleasantries or any outside the gym antics on this week’s episode. Like episode one, all the drama will be taking place inside the Octagon as 16 hopefuls battle it out for the eight remaining spots in the house.

In the opener, Palmerton, Pennsylvania’s Matthew Riddler takes on New Yorker Dan Simmler, a long time student under UFC welterweight champ Matt Serra. After a nip and tuck first round, Riddler explodes with a right hand in the second, knocking Simmler out in spectacular and scary fashion. “Matt got KO of the century,” exclaimed coach Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, as Simmler tried to gather his wits and figure out what just happened to him.

The week’s second bout was fast-paced and exciting for as long as it lasted, with Cincinnati’s Luke Zachrich ending the night of Boston’s Patrick Schultz via a first round rear naked choke submission.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt Tim Credeur showed off his ground game in impressive fashion in his bout, quickly submitting New York’s Erik Charles with an armbar in round one.

Florida’s Brandon Sene displayed a ton of resilience in his bout against Philly’s Aaron Meisner, coming back from behind to submit his foe with a rear naked choke in the opening stanza.

In the first of two distance fights on this week’s episode, Gerald Harris pounded out a unanimous decision over Mike Marrello, and Daniel Cramer did the same, decisioning a courageous Jeremiah Riggs over two rounds.

Finishing up this week’s action, Temecula’s Jesse Taylor was solid in victory as he submitted Nick Rossborough via rear naked choke in the first round, and Cincinnati’s Matt Brown defeated Jackson’s former training partner, Josh Hall via first round TKO due to strikes.

Next week, Jackson and fellow coach Forrest Griffin will choose teams from the 16 remaining fighters and commence the battle as these middleweights fight for a UFC contract and recognition as this season’s ‘Ultimate Fighter’.
