The main event of the evening saw Ireland’s own Aaron McKenna take on Italy’s Etinosa Oliha for the vacant middleweight world title, while in the co-main event, another rising Irish star, Callum Walsh, took on England’s former European middleweight champion Tyler Denny.

The matchup was a battle between two of The Ring magazine’s top 10 middleweight contenders, with McKenna ranked sixth and Oliha fifth. But as the pair battled it out over the 12-round duration, it was clear which contender was the superior fighter, as McKenna comprehensively outboxed Oliha to earn scores of 118-110, 117-111, 116-112 on the judges’ scorecards.
The action started out pretty evenly, with McKenna working well behind the jab, while Oliha looked to land on the inside when the action got close. But as the action progressed through the rounds, McKenna started to separate himself on the scorecard as he consistently worked behind the jab from range, then tied up Oliha up close, preventing the Italian from landing big shots from short range.
The longer the fight went on, the more McKenna was able to make Oliha miss, as he used his smart footwork and movement to frustrate the Italian while still scoring consistently with shots of his own.
A clash of heads in the 11th round opened up a cut on McKenna’s hairline, but it didn’t affect him in the slightest as he continued to pull clear with another strong round. And with the Dublin crowd on their feet cheering and singing, McKenna outboxed Oliha through the final round to close out the fight and capture the world title with a landslide decision victory.
The scorecards reflected McKenna’s dominance throughout the fight, with the Monaghan native taking the landslide unanimous decision win to take his career to 21-0 (10 KOs) and hand Oliha the first defeat of his professional career. (22-1, 10 KOs).
Callum Walsh defeats Tyler Denny via unanimous decision (98-91, 98-91, 96-90)
In the co-main event, Callum Walsh bounced back from a first-round eight-count to claim a comprehensive unanimous decision victory over former European champion Tyler Denny in their 10-round middleweight matchup.
Walsh made a sharp start, and connected with a slick multi-punch combination early to settle any pre-fight nerves. Then there was a shock, as Denny responded to a Walsh combination with a salvo of his own that forced the Irishman to cover up and lean forward. Denny kept on punching, and Walsh eventually took a knee, with the referee ruling the incident to be a knockdown.

Callum Walsh Ring Interview | Zuffa Boxing 10

A wild second round started with what looked like a second knockdown, as Denny connected with punches and Walsh appeared to touch down, but the referee allowed the action to continue without administering a count. Then, with Denny stepping in, looking to land big shots, Walsh unloaded a huge left hook that sent Denny down to the canvas for a much more decisive knockdown.
It seemed both men had the power to hurt the other, and Denny resumed his forward pressure, while Walsh looked to clip Denny at the end of the Englishman’s combinations. But despite appearing to hurt each other with their power early on, both men battled toe to toe throughout the fight, with Walsh consistently holding the advantages in speed, output and accuracy.
A strange round in the eighth saw the referee deduct points from both Walsh and Denny – Walsh for holding, Denny for hitting behind the head – then an accidental clash of heads left the Cork native with a nasty cut just above his left eye. That cut seemed to encourage Denny, who upped his work rate in Round 9 as he enjoyed arguably his best round of the fight.
The pair then both emptied the tank in the final frame as they pushed hard for the finish, but neither man was able to make the breakthrough as the fight went to the scorecards.
The judges all scored the fight emphatically for Walsh, who claimed his 17th professional victory with scores of 98-91, 98-91, 96-90 to keep his perfect record intact. Denny, meanwhile, fell to 21-5-3.
Joe Ward defeats Artjom Kasparian via unanimous decision (97-93, 97-93, 96-94)
Ireland’s “Mighty” Joe Ward battled back from a difficult start to claim a unanimous decision victory over the previously undefeated Artjom Kasparian in their light heavyweight matchup.
Ward was making his return after 659 days away from the ring, and he was forced to dig deep to get the victory as he came back from an early deficit on the scorecards to eventually claim the win on the scorecards after 10 grueling rounds.
The fight started at breakneck pace, as both men met in the center of the ring and engaged in a toe-to-toe battle for the first three rounds, with Kasparian’s more savvy control of distance and timing seeing him edge the early exchanges.
As the fight progressed, Ward tried to keep the Russia-born Englishman on the end of his rangy southpaw jab, while Kasparian looked to step into range and engage in a phone-booth fight with the Irishman.
The grueling nature of the contest really started to show in the closing stages of Round 4, as Ward looked to have punched himself out with a minute to go in the round. The Irishman was throwing labored arm punches, and Kasparian turned up the pressure and landed a host of punches as he looked to punish his man for slowing down.
By the mid-way point in the fight, Ward was fighting a battle on two fronts, as he looked to overcome extreme fatigue, as well as his relentless opponent, and a big straight left, followed by a left upper cut, gave him some encouragement at the start of Round 6, and while he had Kasparian on the canvas at the end of the round, it came from a push, not a punch, and no knockdown was scored.
It showed that Ward was fighting his way back into the contest, and another strong round from the Irishman in the seventh saw him continue his charge in the second half of the fight. And in the eighth, it was Kasparian’s turn to have his gas tank run dry as Ward poured on the pressure and punched him through the ropes. But, despite Kasparian appearing to fall through the ropes, the referee opted not to rule it a knockdown.
With the fight hanging in the balance, Ward and Kasparian swung for the fences through the final two rounds, with Ward’s work looking the more effective down the stretch as the fight went the distance.
The judges were in agreement over the result, with Ward improving his record to 13-1 (8 KOs) with scores of 97-93, 97-93, 96-94.
Sam Hickey defeats Brad Axe via knockout – Round 7, 0:27
Undefeated middleweight Sam Hickey showed his power with a huge one-shot knockout of Brad Axe, then showed his class with his immediate reaction to the scary scenes that unfolded immediately after he landed his fight-finishing punch.
Axe started well and gave Hickey plenty of problems through the first two rounds, as it took Scotland’s former Commonwealth Games gold medalist a little more time than expected to find his range. But when he found it, he eventually made it count.
Hickey started to get some success through the third round, and a five-punch combination that included four right hands dropped Axe to the canvas right at the end of the round as he started to stamp his class on the contest.
Axe gamely looked to return to the style that served him well in the first couple of rounds, but Hickey had found his rhythm, and started to tee off on Axe as the fourth round came to a close.
Hickey went on to boss the next few rounds, then, at the end of the sixth, he came close to finishing his man with a blistering barrage of shots as the bell sounded.

Sam Hickey Knocks Out Brad Axe | Zuffa Boxing 10

It meant the bout went into the penultimate round, and Hickey delivered the knockout blow. A huge straight right hand sent Axe to the canvas, out cold for a huge knockout victory. But, rather than celebrate his finish, Hickey immediately gestured to the crowd to calm their celebrations while medics swiftly attended to the still-unconscious Axe. Once the Englishman regained consciousness and sat up, the Scot immediately went over to his opponent to check on him.

Hickey’s spectacular victory took his blossoming career to 6-0 (3 KOs) as he added another star-building finish to his record.
Louis Greene defeats Daniel Buciuc via decision (59-55)
In the main card opener, “The Medway Mauler” Louis Greene produced a typically hard-nosed performance as he outworked Romania’s Daniel Buciuc en route to a decision victory in their six-round middleweight matchup.
Buciuc got into his rhythm first as he worked well behind his jab through the opening round. But once Greene started to push back with pressure of his own, the fight turned into exactly the sort of phone-booth fight the Englishman has made his calling card.
Greene relentlessly pushed the pace on Buciuc, who became less comfortable as the fight wore on, with the Englishman mixing up heavy shots from head to body, with some notable shots ripped into the midsection of the Bucharest native.
By the fourth, Greene was in total control, and a huge shot to the body, followed by a big hook up top, seemed to briefly put Buciuc in trouble, and while the Romanian survived the round, the Englishman’s heavy-handed body work was really starting to dominate the fight.
It felt like the finish might be there for the taking, but Buciuc showed plenty of heart as he absorbed continued punishment from Greene, who tried in vain to get him out of there before the final bell.
In the end, the result was decided by the referee, who scored the fight 59-55 to Greene, as the man from the Medway Towns in the South East of England improved his record to 19-4 (12 KOs). Buciuc dropped to 16-3 (6 KOs).

McKenna had already showcased his penchant for rapid-fire finishes on his Zuffa Boxing debut, and he picked up where he left off as he hit the gas from the very start against Belfast’s O’Neill.
O’Neill didn’t have a chance to settle in, as McKenna swarmed him with punches from the opening bell, and a pair of clubbing left hooks had O’Neill on wobbly legs as he tried to dip and duck out of danger.

But as he lifted his head after ducking away, McKenna unleashed a massive right hand that sent O’Neill flying through the air and down to the canvas, right in front of his corner.
“That was like a Clubber Lang knockout!” exclaimed Zuffa Boxing analyst Max Kellerman. And that’s exactly what it looked like, as replays showed the footage that looked more at home in a video game than a real-life sporting event.
It was enough for O’Neill’s corner to tell the referee to wave off the contest, as the 3Arena celebrated a spectacular win from one of Ireland’s most exciting boxing talents.
It means that McKenna now owns the two fastest knockouts in Zuffa Boxing history, with his 65-second victory joining his 64-second win over Casey James Streeter at Zuffa Boxing 07 in Bournemouth at the top of the quickest KOs list.
Connor Coyle defeats Mark Beuke (98-93, 98-92, 97-93)
Northern Ireland’s Connor Coyle was made to work for it, but the Derry native extended his undefeated record with a hard-fought decision victory over American Mark Beuke.
The two middleweights looked well matched throughout their 10-round battle, with Coyle looking the sharper in the first couple of rounds, before Beuke upped the aggression in the third to show the Irishman that he wasn’t going to get an easy ride.
It set the stage for a highly-competitive battle as the pair fought through a succession of razor-close rounds, many of which could have been scored either way. But, over the 10-round course, it was Coyle’s more eye-catching work and cleaner shots that drew the appreciation of the judges as they scored round-by-round.
In the end, the judges scored the fight 98-93, 98-92, 97-93, but the totals didn’t truly reflect the closeness of the contest, as Coyle was pushed all the way by “AOB”.
Coyle’s win takes his undefeated record to 23-0 (10 KOs), while Beuke drops to 13-4 (7 KOs).
Patrick O’Connor defeats Juan Manuel Moriel via TKO – Round 1, 3:00
In the opening bout of the night, Ireland’s Patrick “The Punisher” O’Connor lived up to his fighting moniker as he stopped Spain’s Juan Manuel Moriel at the end of the first round of their cruiserweight bout without ever getting out of first gear.
O’Connor let his hands go early as he showcased his smooth striking, mixing up his shots from head to body, and finding some joy with a crushing body shot that clearly troubled Moriel.

O’Connor continued to land at will as he battered the 41-year-old for the full three minutes to send him back to the corner looking demoralised and defeated.
The body language from Moriel wasn’t good, and it was no surprise when he didn’t emerge from his corner for the start of the second round. It meant that O’Connor celebrated a straightforward first-round TKO victory to take his career to 4-0 (4 KOs), and notch a victory on his Zuffa Boxing debut.
