UFC veteran to headline Victory FC event on UFC FIGHT PASS
Jan. 12, 2016
UFC veteran Josh Neer will face old rival Anthony Smith for the Victory FC middleweight title, live on UFC FIGHT PASS on January 29, Victory FC has announced.
The main event of the Omaha-based promotion’s live debut on FIGHT PASS is a rematch of a 2013 fight, which Neer won via a third round submission. Smith has won all six bouts since, and is excited to have the chance to win the vacant belt and get revenge all in one night.
Neer, who previously held the promotion’s welterweight title as well as competing in the UFC 15 times, steps in for Elvis Mutapcic, who accepted a short notice opportunity himself.
Elvis “The King” makes his UFC debut this Sunday in Boston, taking on Francimar Barroso on the UFC FIGHT PASS Prelims to the huge TJ Dillashaw vs Dominick Cruz card in Boston.
Victory FC president Ryan Stoddard said: “Everyone at Victory FC is thrilled that Elvis Mutapcic has achieved his dream of signing with the UFC. We wish him the best of luck this Sunday. We want Victory FC to be known for developing athletes.
“Now, in the tradition of fine mixed martial artists everywhere, Josh Neer has stepped up to headline VFC 47 and give fight fans a rematch they’ve been waiting three years to see.”
The full Victory FC card, which will steam live and on-demand on FIGHT PASS, starts and 10pm ET/7pm PT on Friday, January 29.
