During the visit, Vera met with members of the middle school’s STEMAcademy, a cutting-edge program that addresses the interests of middle school students while incorporating the national standards in math, science, and technology utilizing the Project Lead Way curriculum.
“I had a great afternoon spending time with these kids today,” said Vera. “They are smart, and this academy will help them work towards achieving their goals while staying away from bad influences.”

“It was incredible to have Chito visit us and share his story of strength, perseverance, and hard work,” said Debbie Palacios, Cashman STEM Academy Director. “Our students connected with him through our shared language and experience and see him as a role model who has been able to achieve his goals. We are so thankful to UFC for the opportunity.”

“It meant a lot for us to have Chito come and visit us here at Cashman Middle School,” said Karina Palacios, CIS Nevada Youth Coordinator. “Our students were able to ask him about his career and hear about his journey to UFC. It was amazing for them to connect with him on a personal level, in both English and Spanish, and that’s something they won’t forget!
