Main Event: Carlos Ulberg defeats Dominick Reyes by KO, Round 1, 4:27

Carlos Ulberg closed out Saturday’s fight card in Perth in spectacular fashion, knocking out Dominick Reyes to collect his ninth consecutive victory and potentially put himself in line for a championship opportunity next.

The light heavyweights were judicious with their output through the first four minutes of the fight, but in the final minute of the first, Ulberg committed to throwing and landed flush, dropping Reyes with a heavy right hand and pouncing to pound out the finish.

With the title up for grabs next week and another pair of contenders set to hit the Octagon ahead of them, Ulberg made sure to establish himself as the clubhouse leader in the chase for the next title opportunity with this one. “Black Jag” has been rolling and saved his best performance to date for his first main event assignment. Just a brilliant effort by the City Kickboxing man.

Jimmy Crute defeats Ivan Erslan by submission (rear naked choke) at 3:19 of Round 1

Jimmy Crute Post-Fight Interview | UFC Perth
/
Erslan showed his quality hands right out of the chute, landing a couple good shots on Crute in the opening seconds of the fight, which prompted “The Brute” to shoot a well-timed double leg and put his Croatian adversary on the canvas. After staying ahead of Erslan through a series of attacks and scrambles, Crute clamped onto a submission reminiscent of a WWE-style camel clutch, forcing him to tap.

Just a vicious finish the resurgent Crute, who has picked up two wins in the last three months, showing he’s all the way back after a self-imposed hiatus from the summer of 2023 until February this year. He’s been ranked before, and if he keeps this up, Crute could very well be ranked again.

Jack Jenkins defeats Ramon Taveras by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Jack Jenkins and Ramon Taveras engaged in a high output, tightly contested featherweight clash midway through the main card, with Victoria’s Jenkins coming away on the happy side of the scorecards.

Jack Jenkins Post-Fight Interview | UFC Perth
/
Known for his leg kicks and conditioning, Jenkins looked to take the fight to Taveras early, pushing the pace and firing off kicks, only for his fellow DWCS grad to stand his ground and fire back with heavy hands. The next two rounds played out in a similar fashion, with Taveras landing a smattering of heavy singles while Jenkins put forth greater volume and a more diverse attack.

The featherweights went the distance, but the outcome was never in doubt, as Jenkins earned a clean sweep of the scorecards to get himself back into the win column. That’s now four wins in six UFC starts for “Phar" Jack, who has established himself as a well-conditioned, talented member of the 145-pound ranks and will look to start stringing together victories again now that he’s got things moving in the right direction again.

Neil Magny defeats Jake Matthews by submission (D’arce choke) at 3:08 of Round 3

Neil Magny Post-Fight Interview | UFC Perth
/
Late in the opening stanza, Matthews worked to catch a deep guillotine choke, with referee Jim Perdios seemingly stopping the fight before the horn, believing Magny was out. He was not and objected straight away, the fight continued, and after Matthews dominated the second, Mangy cranked up the aggression in the third. Midway through the frame, the veteran mainstay dragged his Australian counterpart to the canvas, laced up a D’arce choke and squeezed out a tap.

That’s consecutive come-from-behind wins for Magny this year, and his 24th in the UFC, which moved him into second place all time, three wins behind leader Jim Miller. What an outstanding rally from “The Haitian Sensation,” who scored his second win in as many trips to Australian and moved to 3-0 in the ANZAC region with the victory.

Tom Nolan defeats Charlie Campbell by submission (rear naked choke) at 4:08 of Round 1

Tom Nolan Post-Fight Interview | UFC Perth
/
Campbell landed a couple clean shots early that clearly stung Nolan, but “Big Train” was able to steady himself and start landing offense of his own, turning the main card opener into an entertaining slugfest. Just after the midway point of the round, Nolan landed a spinning back kick to the body that clearly hurt Campbell, opening the door for the Australian to press forward, add to the punishment before forcing the New Yorker to the canvas and wrapping up the choke.

The 25-year-old Dana White’s Contender Series grad dropped his promotional debut last January and is unbeaten since, rattling off four straight wins to establish himself as a true rising talent in the 155-pound weight class. With his size and well-rounded skill set, it’s going to be interesting to see how far Nolan can take things once he returns to action next year.
