UFC Celebrates A Decade in Australia and New Zealand

For 10 years, Australia and New Zealand have provided iconic and memorable moments in the Octagon.

This year marks a decade of UFC® live events across Australia and New Zealand. In celebration of the historic milestone, UFC is launching the campaign “A Decade in ANZ” paying tribute to the organization’s record-breaking events, crowned champions, passionate fans and unforgettable memories formed over the past 10 years.

It was standing room only when the iconic Octagon, along with a star-studded line-up of UFC athletes first arrived with UFC® 110: NOGUEIRA VS. VELASQUEZ on February 21, 2010. The high standard that was set in both athletic performance and commercial success quickly gained the region’s reputation of the greatest market globally ‘pound for pound’ for UFC.

A Decade in ANZ kicks off today, July 10, across UFC ‘s local social channels. Over the coming months, UFC will be joined by its local partners to help fans re-live key-moments such as UFC 110 that have defined, shaped and grown the organization and its athletes in the region. From our very first Australian athlete entering  UFC to compete at UFC® 30, to setting world attendance records and everything in between… this road to the Octagon is one for the books.

“Australia has been incredible to us,” said UFC President Dana White, “we love coming here and putting on epic shows for the Australian and New Zealand fans. The growth we’ve seen not only in the events but also in the athletes from Australia and New Zealand – Whittaker, Adesanya, Volkanovski, Hooker… the list goes on. These guys are super exciting to watch and the fans from that region are some of the best in the world.”

The campaign will be supported by UFC Fight Pass with a specific collection created for A Decade in ANZ, showcasing our 18 events and standout performances by Australian and New Zealand athletes as well as original programming and curated content. From next week, fans and new users can access an extended free 10-day trial for the remainder of July and unlock the decade of dust-ups at their fingertips.

Limited edition UFC ANZ 10 merchandise will also be made available for purchase in the coming month via the UFC Store.

Fans are also encouraged to share their favourite moments from UFC in Australia and New Zealand across social media by using the hashtag #UFCANZ10. Consumer promotions will be run during the campaign where participants will go in the draw to win items such as anniversary merchandise and tickets to the next event in region.

UFC’s local broadcast partners are also backing the initiative with special programming locked in to accompany the key moments and big events of the decade.

UFC Celebrates A Decade in Australia and New Zealand
/

Since 2010, UFC has presented 15 events in Australia and three  in New Zealand, including sold-out shows at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena, Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena, Perth Arena, Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Gold Coast Convention Centre and Auckland’s Spark Arena, accumulating  gross gate revenues of more than $50m AUD. Collectively, r more than 293,000 fans have attended these events  and millions more worldwide have watched on PPV and broadcast television.

The seven host cities to date – Sydney, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth and Auckland – have positively benefited from the economic impact UFC events deliver, resulting in tens of millions of total economic activity per event, driven by its ability to attract strong out-of-state audiences.

UFC’s live events have seen enormous success in Australia having set the world record twice for the highest attendance globally for an MMA event. First broken in 2015 with UFC®193: ROUSEY VS. HOLM at Melbourne’s Marvel (former Etihad) Stadium with a total of 56,214 fans packing out the Docklands venue. Last year, UFC broke their own record with UFC®243: WHITTAKER VS. ADESANYA in October with 57,127 in attendance once again at Marvel Stadium.

Stay tuned over the coming months as we countdown, celebrate and relive the action-packed 10 year run. Here’s to the next decade…
