UFC 193 Achieves Economic Impact North Of $100 Million

UFC, The World's Premiere Mixed Martial Arts Organization, Releases The Findings Of An Economic Impact Study From UFC 193: Rousey vs Holm In Melbourne

The Octagon’s first trip to Melbourne was truly one for the history books as Holly Holm shocked the world, knocking Ronda Rousey out with a picture-perfect head kick to wrest the belt away from the dominant Olympic gold medalist.

UFC 193, which was originally supposed to be headlined by a welterweight title bout between Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit, couldn’t have asked for a more stunning replacement and subsequent result. The card also hosted a strawweight title contest between Joanna Jędrzejczyk and Valérie Létourneau with the incumbent champion putting on a dominant performance to defend her belt.

With Australians Mark Hunt, Robert Whittaker, Jake Matthews and more also earning victories, it was a banner night for the company and for Australian mixed martial arts.

Away from the Octagon, the impact was felt greatly as well. The overall economic impact reached past the $100 million mark, and nearly 900 jobs were supported due to the event. In one of the most historic nights in UFC’s young history, the spotlight on Melbourne couldn’t have been brighter nor more positive.
