Top Flyweights Perez and Schnell Clash At UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs Till

Flyweight Contenders Are Set To Compete At The UFC Apex On September 4

A crucial flyweight bout goes down on September 4 as Alex Perez returns for the first time since challenging for the title to take on all-action veteran Matt Schnell at UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs Till.

The fight is Perez’ first since November 2020 when he lost to Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 255, and he’s looking to regain some of the momentum he garnered on his 3-fight winning streak preceding that title shot.

A graduate of Dana White’s Contender Series, Perez was the first fighter from the show to compete for the belt. Since earning his contract, he is 7-2 in the Octagon with five finishes, including a rare TKO via leg kicks against Jussier Formiga in mid-2020.

In Schnell, Perez faces one of the most experienced flyweights on the roster. Schnell participated in The Ultimate Fighter: Tournament of Champions, and made his UFC debut in the season’s finale in 2016. Since then, Schnell racked up a 4-1 record at flyweight with two wins coming by submission. He is also looking to get back on track after falling to Rogerio Bontorin in a bantamweight fight at UFC 262.

This matchup is sure to be a high-level mixed martial arts contest as both men have shown the ability to finish fights on their feet or on the mat. As the flyweight division continues to fill up with talent who are jockeying for the chance to fight Brandon Moreno for the belt, Perez and Schnell both know they can get an inside track with an imposing win on September 4.
