Anthony Johnson takes Alexander Gustafsson’s No. 1 light heavyweight ranking in the latest official UFC rankings release after his unbelievable first-round TKO finish of the Sweden star on FOX.
With the win, Johnson punched his ticket to the next title shot against champion Jon Jones for some time later this year. “Rumble” said Jones is in for something he’s never had to face before.
“I think I’ll be the hardest puncher he’s ever faced, and he’s faced a lot of top quality guys,” Johnson said at the Fight Night Stockholm post fight press conference. “Hopefully I can just do things nobody else has done to him. Alexander gave him one of the worst beatings he’s ever had, and hopefully I can give him one that’s 10 times worse.”
The light heavyweight champion got a major shakeup this week, as former No. 1 contender Daniel Cormier dropped a spot down to No. 3 to make room for Johnson. Ryan Bader jumped past Phil Davis into the No. 5 spot, and Dan Henderson, who is now competing at middleweight, dropped three spots to No. 12 at 205.
Gegard Mousasi, who finished Henderson in the first round of their co-main event showdown, jumped past Tim Kennedy into the No. 7 spot at 185.
In other movement, Fabricio Werdum took Gustafsson’s No. 15 spot on the pound-for-pound rankings list. Conor McGregor passed Ricardo Lamas into the No. 3 spot at featherweight.
Finally, Ronda Rousey and Vitor Belfort both jumped a spot in the p-4-p rankings into the No. 7 and 13 spot, respectively.
