The 22-year-old from Cameroon is more patient and polished than a fighter his age, with his limited experience has any business being, and it makes him a fascinating competitor to track going forward. This was a statement win to start his UFC journey, and it’s going to be fascinating to see how things progress for "The Silent Assassin” from here.

The opening round was competitive, with Rodriguez having greater success in the grappling exchanges, but Costa doing more damage in the striking realm. After the Brazilian dominated the middle frame, Rodriguez rallied back in the third, taking the fight to Costa, leaving the outcome hinged on how the judges saw the first round.

When the scorecards were collected and totalled, it was Costa that came away ahead, earning 29-28 scores across the board to register his second win in five weeks, and third consecutive UFC victory. The 28-year-old has settled into life inside the Octagon, and continues climbing the ranks in the 145-pound weight class.

Loopy Godinez Post-Fight Interview | UFC Mexico
/

Godinez leaned on her grappling in the first and second rounds to ground the dangerous Brazilian striker, slamming her to the canvas with force in both frames. Polastri landed good shots off her back in the first, and worked to walk down Godinez in the third, landing heaps of heavy shots that left the ranked veteran bloodied as they continued to battle through to the final horn.

All three judges scored the fight in favor of Godinez, who snapped a two-fight skid with the victory. A staple in the Top 15 for the last couple years, the action-oriented Godinez remains one of the most consistently exciting competitors in the 115-pound weight class.

Rafa Garcia Post-Fight Interview | UFC Mexico
/

Garcia was the more active and effective of the two in the first, using his speed and variety to out-work the veteran. Pichel worked back into the contest in the second, getting loose with his hands more following an accidental eye poke. In the third, the two men ran level for much of the round before Garcia hoisted Pichel into the air and drove him to the canvas, landing punches when he rose to his feet, both men swinging to the final horn.

For the second time in the evening, the scorecards were gathered, totalled, and read aloud, with all three judges seeing the fight in favor of Garcia. The first Mexican fighter to compete on Saturday night, the 30-year-old got understandably emotional discussing the opportunity to compete at home and claim a victory.

Jamall Emmers Stops Gabriel Miranda In The First Round | UFC Mexico
/

Miranda was able to initiate a grappling sequence in the opening moments of the first round, working to attack an arm triangle choke off the bottom. But once Emmers cleared the submission and forced the Brazilian to stand, it was one-way traffic. A straight right hand dropped Miranda, a lead elbow put him on rubber legs soon after, and another series of blows along the fence finally brought the bout to a close.

MarQuel Mederos Post-Fight Interview | UFC Mexico
/

In the first round, Mederos did well, using his movement, speed, and low kicks to get the better of the exchanges and claiming an initial lead. But Hubbard worked to close the distance in the second, spending the majority of the frame pasted to Mederos’ back, searching for chokes, before putting the Dana White’s Contender Series grad on his back in the center of the Octagon early in the third. A tactical mistake allowed Mederos to get back to a control position and split Hubbard open with elbows to the side of the head, making things difficult to decide as the final horn sounded.

The judges were tasked with determining the victor, and when the scorecards were collected and tallied, it was Mederos that came out ahead, claiming the split decision victory. The change of positions and Mederos’ ability to land meaningful damage straight away surely swung the fight in his favor, and earned him his second victory in as many UFC starts to kick off the night’s action in Mexico City.
