The opening slate of the UFC’s return to Nashville, Tennessee produced a plethora of finishes to set the tone for what should be an all-action main card at Bridgestone Arena.

Birthday girl Fatima Kline opened the show with a third-round stoppage win over Melissa Martinez before Mike Davis followed suit with a second-round finish of Mitch Ramirez in the very next fight. In the night’s first heavyweight matchup, Brazilian Valter Walker collected his third straight submission finish by heel hook, quickly tapping Kennedy Nzechukwu ahead of a competitive flyweight bout between Eduarda Moura and the retiring former title challenger Lauren Murphy.

Australian veteran Jake Matthews took the judges out of the equation in the first of three welterweight bouts on the evening, quickly submitting Chidi Njokuani in the penultimate preliminary card contest ahead of Max Griffin and Chris Curtis throwing down for 15 minutes to close out the early collection of bouts.

Chris Curtis defeats Max Griffin by split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28)

Seasoned combatants Chris Curtis and Max Griffin closed out the preliminary card slate, battling on the feet for all three rounds.

Griffin got the better of things in the opening stanza, landing the better shots and benefitting from an inadvertent clash of heads that opened a cut over Curtis’ right eye. The former ranked middleweight worked into the fight in the second, using his forward pressure to attack Griffin and draw level before they each had good moments in the third, leaving the verdict in the hands of the judges.

When the tens and nines were totalled, it was Curtis that came ahead, earning a victory in his UFC welterweight debut while halting a mini two-fight skid. This was a solid start to his time in the 170-pound ranks for “Action Man,” who instantly becomes a seasoned, dangerous addition to the division.

Jake Matthews defeats Chidi Njokuani by submission (short choke) at 1:09 of Round 1

Jake Matthews snatched up his third straight victory with style points on Saturday, jumping on the back of Chidi Njokuani and squeezing out a submission finish.

“The Celtic Kid” wisely closed the distance after eating a couple early kicks, putting Njokuani on his knees with a deft foot sweep, which allowed Matthews to jump on the back. From there, the young veteran clamped onto a short choke and forced Njokuani to tap.

Matthews debuted in the UFC as a 19-year-old and has remained on the roster since, developing into a solid all-around talent and ascending presence in the welterweight ranks. This was an outstanding showing from the 30-year-old Australian to extend his winning streak and keep things moving forward in the talent-rich 170-pound ranks.

Eduarda Moura defeats Lauren Murphy by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Eduarda Moura held on to collect her second straight victory since moving to flyweight, surviving a late rally by the retiring Lauren Murphy.

The Brazilian prospect was far and away the superior fighter in the opening round when both were fresh, but as the rounds ticked on and her gas tank emptied, Murphy was able to force her way back into the contest. “Lucky” chased a guillotine choke in the third that looked close, but Moura was able to defend, escape, and respond with a solid offence of her own down the stretch to close things out.

When the scorecards were collected and totalled, it was Moura that came out ahead, earning 29-28 scores across the board. It’s a solid win for the Dana White’s Contender Series graduate, who moved to 12-1 with the victory.

For Murphy, Saturday’s bout brings a close to a 15-year career that included an Invicta FC championship win, an 8-6 mark inside the Octagon, and a lengthy run in the Top 15 of the UFC flyweight division.

Valter Walker defeats Kennedy Nzechukwu by submission (heel hook) at 0:54 of Round 1

Valter Walker genuinely has a finishing move and the Brazilian heavyweight just keeps hitting it!

Paired off with Kennedy Nzechukwu on Saturday’s prelims, Walker charged after the Dana White’s Contender Series graduate, punching his way into the clinch. From there, he dropped to his back, attacked the heel hook, and collected the tap.

That’s now three straight wins by heel hook for “The Clean Monster,” who has followed his debut loss by finishing each of his last three opponents with his signature hold. It’s been a fascinating run for the 27-year-old heavyweight, and after a third consecutive victory, Walker should get a step up in competition next time out.

Mike Davis defeats Mitch Ramirez by TKO (strikes) at 4:08 of Round 2

Mike Davis turned in a dominant effort in “Music City” to get himself back into the win column, finishing Mitch Ramirez in the second round.

“Beast Boy” used a high amplitude takedown to put Ramirez on the canvas early in the first, spending the remainder of the frame in back mount, hunting submissions and controlling the action. While he got touched a little early in the second, Davis settled in and started returning fire, stinging Ramirez before elevating to land a flying knee and putting him down with a torrent of punches.

This was the most well-rounded and dynamic performance of Davis’ UFC career — a complete showing against a game opponent where he was forced to wade through some early adversity. The Orlando-based lightweight has always had the physical tools to be a potential threat, and he showed in this one that he might be starting to put it together.

Fatima Kline defeats Melissa Martinez by TKO (head kick and punches) at 2:36 of Round 3

Highly regarded prospect Fatima Kline picked up her second win of 2025 to open Saturday’s event in Nashville, out-working Melissa Martinez over 15 minutes.

Kline was effective and efficient in the opening round, pressuring forward and peppering Martinez with strikes, keeping her Mexican foe off balance. Though Martinez had more success in the second, Kline remained in control, and in the third, the birthday girl connected with a left high kick that put Martinez on the deck, bringing the fight to a sudden, explosive stop.

After debuting up a division and showing moxie against Jasmine Jasudavicius, Kline is now 2-0 with a pair of finishes since returning to her natural surroundings at 115 pounds. Just 25 years old, the future is bright for “The Archangel.”
