Post fight interview with Rony Jason

The twelfth episode of TUF Brazil determined the featherweight final of the show. Rony Jason beat Hugo Wolverine and guaranteed his spot against  Godofredo Pepey, a fight that happens at UFC 147 on June 23rd in Belo Horizonte. However, it wasn’t an easy task for Jason.

With a professional record of 10 wins and 3 losses, Rony Jason won nine in the first round and one in the second. In other words, he never had to fight three rounds. Against Hugo Wolverine, Jason got the best of the judges’ decision after a very close bout.

“Many people said I didn’t have enough gas for an entire fight and this fight shows the level in which I’m training. I showed everyone that, if I need to fight three rounds, five rounds or the whole day, I’ll keep fighting.” Says Jason.

“Another nice point is that many think I only have my jiu-jitsu, and I showed that I can also fight standing up. I count on my great coaches in this matter. I was very happy with this performance because Hugo comes from Dorea’s school – boxing trainer of names like the UFC champion Junior dos Santos - and I wanted to show that I can also fight standing.”

Before the battle, Jason and his teammates were visited in the house of Rodrigo Minotauro and Rogerio Minotauro, leaders of the team the fighter represents outside the reality show. In front of such a tough challenge, the encounter with the Nogueira brothers was an extra motivator.

"I was having a hard time losing weight and when they appeared on the show it was an extra motivation. Inside the house all this time, the hardest thing was missing my two sons and losing weight. Another difficulty was not having  my training partners. Besides my blood family I have my family of heart, which is the Team Nogueira," says Rony, who now has the chance to live a new experience:

“Minotauro and Minotouro watching me in the final will also be an extra motivation. It’s funny, before I used to watch them fight and now they are going to see me fighting. That’s priceless.”

For Rony Jason, many goals were reached. But the fighter from Team Wanderlei on TUF Brazil is not satisfied. He knows he still has one more step to his dream.

“When I signed up for the reality show, I believed I could be selected, and then that I could be in the final, and now that I can be the champion. Everything has its time, and this opportunity showed up for me at the right time. I was good in my head, and with my body. TUF gave me the opportunity to get to the UFC, but I will only believe that my dream came true when I win this final and sign my contract.”
