The UFC returned to Paris, France, for a UFC Fight Night card packed with French fighting talent and a host of emerging prospects, as one of the nation’s most celebrated fighters made his long-awaited Octagon debut in the main event of the evening.

Now that the dust has settled at the Accor Arena, it’s time to go to the scorecard to recap some of Saturday’s biggest winners at UFC Fight Night: Hooker vs Parnasse.

Salahdine Parnasse

The main event saw the latest French star to land on the UFC roster put the lightweight elite on notice with a blistering debut. Quite simply, Salahdine Parnasse was outstanding.

Parnasse was thrust into the main event spotlight on his UFC debut, where he faced off against Dan Hooker, who has faced a who’s who at lightweight and was seen as the perfect measuring stick for just how high the “The Lion of Atlas” will enter the lightweight division. The answer was emphatic.

From his entrance to 2Pac’s “California Love” to his eventual departure, mobbed by the French fans inside Accor Arena, it was abundantly clear that Parnasse was a bona fide star. But, of course, it’s the part in between – the fight itself – that really counts, and Parnasse passed that test with flying colors.

Parnasse calmly waited for his moment as he assessed Hooker’s range early. Then, once he’d edged his way into striking range, he showed his intent with some lightning-fast counters and a couple of blurring hooks that, had they landed clean, could have ended the fight even earlier than he eventually did.

The French fans willing their man to success didn’t have to wait too much longer, however, as Parnasse found his mark with a crushing body kick that briefly folded up the Kiwi, who couldn’t poker-face his way out of trouble. Parnasse saw his moment, then closed the show in clinical fashion. In the end, it took just two minutes, 35 seconds.

It was a performance that showed the former two-division champion for respected Polish MMA promotion KSW had arrived in the UFC not just ready for the Octagon – he arrived ready to take on the very best in the world.

Axel Sola

The co-main event was guaranteed to produce a French winner as lightweights Fares Ziam and Axel Sola went head-to-head. Ziam was the more experienced UFC competitor, but on the night, Sola proved that he was the more explosive athlete as he scored the biggest win of his career.

Sola had already built a strong reputation as one of the top amateur fighters in the world before turning pro and building an undefeated 11-fight resumé that earned him a UFC contract. And, after going 2-1 in the Octagon in his first three fights – and almost a year to the day from his successful Octagon debut – Sola returned to the same building and delivered a Performance of the Night-worthy display inside Accor Arena to defeat Ziam in just 100 seconds.

One crushing left hand was all it took to knock “The Smile Killer” out cold, as Sola announced himself as France’s latest emerging star.

Kurtis Campbell

Campbell’s UFC debut didn’t go his way as he was stopped by Danny Silva in London in March. It meant that he was doubly determined to get the right result when he returned to the Octagon in Paris. If there was any additional pressure on “The Pink Panther,” it certainly didn’t show.

Campbell produced a nerveless performance as he dominated Trevor Peek with a combination of smart striking and a dominant ground game as he beat up Peek in all facets of the game before eventually finishing him with a rear-naked choke in the third round.

It was the perfect bounce-back performance from Campbell, who showcased his well-rounded MMA skillset in a comprehensive victory.

Losene Keita

By his own admission, Losene Keita’s UFC debut didn’t show him at his best. The Belgian livewire battled to a decision loss to Nathaniel Wood that showed he could hang with a respected European vet, but didn’t showcase his explosive talents to the fullest. “The Black Panther” put that right in his sophomore appearance, as he demolished the usually-durable Muhammad Naimov via first-round knockout.

The knockout was only part of the story, however. We also got to see the personality that helped make Keita a star in the OKTAGON promotion in Europe as he delivered his stunning first-round finish, then jumped the fence and took a seat at Octagonside to give himself a round of applause.

In a sport that delivers highlight-reel moments on a near-weekly basis, individual finishes can sometimes get forgotten in the shuffle over time. But Keita’s brilliant post-fight celebration ensured that his win became instantly memorable. His post-fight interview, where he set his sights on English contender Lerone Murphy, also hit the mark.

Sophomore performances in the Octagon don’t get much better.

Mario Pinto

Portugal-born, London-based Mario Pinto is making his way up the heavyweight division, with his latest performance his most impressive yet.

Pinto faced former light heavyweight contender Ryan Spann, who was building some momentum of his own since making the move up in weight. And “Superman” struck first as he put Pinto on wobbly legs with some heavy shots in the early exchanges.

But Pinto kept his composure under fire, then made Spann taste his power as he found his mark with heavy punches of his own. Pinto took control of the action and dominated the fight from that point on as he delivered a systematic beatdown that led to a TKO finish early in the second round.

After his win, Pinto made his mic time count as he delivered a passionate statement on the heavyweight class, and demanded respect for the division once again.
