Melendez vs. Alvarez to Finally Meet in UFC 188 Co-Main Event

It’s a matchup fight fans have wanted to see for years, and on Saturday, June 13, the lightweight clash between Eddie Alvarez and Gilbert “El Nino” Melendez will finally become a reality, as the two meet in the co-main event of UFC 188 in Mexico City, Mexico.

In the UFC 188 main event, Cain Velasquez defends his world heavyweight title against interim belt holder Fabricio Werdum. Tickets go on sale on March 18.

The former Strikeforce lightweight champion, and a fighter considered by many to be the best to ever compete in that promotion, Santa Ana’s Melendez has his sights set on a rematch with Anthony Pettis for UFC gold, but first he must get past the equally motivated Philadelphia native, who made his long-awaited UFC debut last September. And while he lost a decision to Donald Cerrone, his exciting effort made UFC fans demand a quick return to the Octagon for the Underground King.
