Saturday’s preliminary card featured a number of competitive decisions and a couple thrilling finishes, but the shift to the main card inverted those results, with several athletes delivering memorable finishes that had the crowd at Arena CDMX in hysterics.
The main card opened with a let down for the partisan audience, as Kevin Borjas collected his first UFC victory by out-hustling Ronaldo Rodriguez. Mexican competitors won each of the next four contests, with hometown boy David Martinez kicking things off with a first-round stoppage win over Saimon Oliveira, followed by Raul Rosas Jr. out-wrestling Vince Morales to garner his fifth win in six trips into the Octagon.
Flyweight Edgar Chairez wobbled and submitted CJ Vergara, getting overcome with emotion following the first-round finish, with lightweight Manuel Torres earning an emphatic return to the win column by stopping American veteran Drew Dober in less than two minutes.
In the main event, Brandon Moreno finally collected his first UFC victory in Mexico City, earning a clean sweep of the scorecards in a competitive battle with Australian Steve Erceg.
It was another outstanding night of action at Arena CDMX, and we have a recap of all the action collected for you below.

Moreno was razor-sharp to open, landing big shots that caused the Aussie to take big reset steps. Erceg seemed to work back into things in the second and third, having more success as he established his range and was able to read the offense coming his way more effectively. In the championship rounds, Moreno had the bigger individual moments, getting big reactions out of Erceg, while the Perth native was effective in his traditional technical manner, but failed to produce any clear “shift in momentum” moments.
They went the distance, and when the scorecards were collected and totalled, it was Moreno that came away with his first UFC win on home soil. This was a hard-fought battle and a quality win for “The Assassin Baby,” who remains one of the elite talents in the flyweight division and a serious title threat, regardless of who currently sits on the throne.

Torres promised to be more patient and measured, and largely showed that on Saturday, staying tight while landing a couple long, clean punches in the early going. A blistering one-two left Dober reaching for a desperate single leg, allowing Torres to unload a string of unanswered, undefended blows that finally brought about the finish.
This was an outstanding bounce-back win for the talented Mexican lightweight, who landed on the wrong side of a first-round stoppage last time out. Dober is a legit measuring stick and tenured veteran, and Torres blew him out of the water to move to 4-1 inside the Octagon.

“Puro Chicali” stung Vergara with the first jab he threw, and after a couple minutes of each man looking for their spots, the Mexican rocks his opponent with a left hook that put Vergara down. Seconds later, a right hand put the Texan on rubber legs, prompting Chairez to search for the strangle, attacking the choke before setting his hooks, ultimately securing the tap.
The proud Mexican was extremely emotional following the victory, fighting off tears and clearly revealing in the moment. He’s fought a tough slate throughout his UFC tenure, and moved to 2-2 with one no contest with the victory.

The 20-year-old leaned on his wrestling to control the veteran, using his improved striking to work inside in the first before just attacking with a takedown in the second, grinding out quality control time while always being aware of any submission openings as they came. Morales looked to be deep on a choke in the early stages of the third, but Rosas Jr. remained calm, adjusted appropriately, and escaped, claiming the upper hand on the canvas before Morales once again chased a finish to no avail in the final seconds of the fight.
“El Niño Problema” is now 5-1 in the UFC and continues to show growth and development each time out. His grappling is always going to be his calling card, as it was here, and as he gains further experience, matures further, he has the opportunity to develop into a real problem inside the Octagon.

The DWCS Season 8 graduate was patient through the early moments of the fight, picking his spots as he looked to keep Oliveira at range, getting the better of the exchanges. Midway through the contest, Martinez started finding his range and landing more, eventually stinging Oliveira with a right hand that paused the Brazilian, allowing Martinez to crank up the output and chase down the finish.
This was an outstanding effort for the promotional newcomer, who joins his sister Melissa as victorious fighters in the UFC, making them the second brother-sister tandem to accomplish the feat. What a tremendous debut for the debuting Martinez!

The Peruvian leaned on his speed and superior boxing, stinging Rodriguez throughout the contest, both when going forward and when moving backwards. He dropped “Lazy Boy” in the opening stanza and continued to pick away with good shots throughout the contest, showing a very good ability to counter effectively and stay committed to his game plan.
Borjas impressed in his contract-winning turn on Dana White’s Contender Series, and fought tough outs Joshua Van and Alessandro Costa in his first two UFC appearances, landing on the wrong side of the result in both of those contests. Saturday night, “El Gallo Negro” was finally triumphant, showing why many considered him a live underdog against the fan favorite.
