The UFC’s return to Montreal on Saturday night had a massive impact on the landscape of several weight classes, including the women’s flyweight ranks and the loaded welterweight division, where a new king now sits on the throne.
In the main card opener, Benoit Saint Denis dominated short-notice replacement Kyle Prepolec, submitting him early in the second round. That was followed by Natalia Silva defeating former champ Alexa Grasso with a savvy, tactical effort on the feet before hometown boy Aiemann Zahabi rallied to register the biggest win of his career, defeating Jose Aldo on the scorecards, prompting the Brazilian legend to once again hang up his gloves.

In the fifth, Della got back to getting the better of the striking exchanges, busting Muhammad up with a knee as he came forward, only for the champ to drag him to the canvas and lump him up with an elbow. Down the stretch, the man from Perth continued unloading, hurting Muhammad and throwing to the very end.
After the scorecards were collected and totalled, it was Della Maddalena that stood triumphant, earning his eighth consecutive UFC win and 18th consecutive victory overall to become the new welterweight champion. He joins Robert Whittaker and Alexander Volkanovski as Australian titleholders, and Jamahal Hill and Sean O’Malley as DWCS grads to ascend to the top of their divisions.
This was an outstanding fight and ramps up the excitement around the welterweight division even more as we head into the second half of 2025.
Co-Main Event: Valentina Shevchenko defeats Manon Fiorot by unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 48-47)
Valentina Shevchenko successfully defended her flyweight title, earning a unanimous decision win in a tough, competitive bout with French contender Manon Fiorot in the UFC 315 co-main event.
The champion was sharp with counters out of the gate, busting up the challenger in the opening five minutes before Fiorot steadied herself and worked back into the fight in the second. The third was tight, with both having limited success, with the fourth becoming a decisive Shevchenko round late when “Bullet” put her adversary on the canvas with a right hook. Much of the fifth was spent in the clinch, with Fiorot dictating the engagements, and neither really landing anything of serious significance.

The judges were called upon to determine the victor, and when the tens and nines were tallied, it was “And Still,” as Shevchenko came away on the unanimous decision win. Early in the third, Aldo hurt Zahabi badly, but emptied his gas tank trying to finish, giving the local fighter the opportunity to dominate the final three-fifths of the round.

When the scorecards were collected and totalled, it was Zahabi that came out ahead, registering the biggest win of his career, at home. The Canadian veteran is on an incredible tear at the moment, and should get another big opportunity later this year.
Following the bout, Aldo left his gloves in the center of the Octagon, declaring his time competing in MMA has once again come to a close. The former featherweight champion and Brazilian legend is already in the UFC Hall of Fame and remains a beloved icon in the sport.

The Brazilian was outstanding with her movement and speedy striking, picking at Grasso at range and when she tried to come in for the majority of the first two rounds, frustrating the recently dethroned former titleholder. Grasso had a little more success coming forward in the third, showing greater urgency as she worked to close the distance, but Silva was able to continue circling, landing quick shots, and keeping herself safe.
Still just 28 years old, this win solidified Silva as a legitimate title threat in the 125-pound weight class, and she could very well be next in line to challenge for the title, which is on the line later this evening. This was an outstanding performance from the streaking Brazilian, and an effort that future opponents will want to study closely as they prepare to share the cage with the gifted contender.

Saint Denis dominated this fight from start to finish, using his grappling to shut down his short-notice foe through the first. After getting more loose with his hands and elbows to start the second, Saint-Denis dragged Prepolec to the canvas, clamping onto an arm-triangle choke as the two hit the mat.
While not the opponent he was initially anticipating, this was a tremendous effort and return to the win column for the French lightweight. Props to Prepolec for taking such a tough fight on less than a week’s notice, but the night belonged to the “God of War.”
