The UFC on FOX card in Newark, New Jersey now has a co-main event, as top middleweight contenders Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Yoel Romero square off on April 18 at Prudential Center.
The bout was originally scheduled for the UFC 184 card in Los Angeles on February 28, but was scratched due to an illness suffered by Souza.
A renowned submission artist from Brazil who has added a lethal striking game to his arsenal, former Strikeforce champion Souza extended his current win streak to seven in September when he avenged a 2008 loss to Gegard Mousasi by submitting his foe in the third round.
A 2000 Olympic Silver medalist in freestyle wrestling for Cuba, Romero has turned into a knockout artist in MMA, with four of his five UFC wins coming by way of strikes. In September, Romero halted Tim Kennedy in the third round, earning Fight of the Night honors in the process.
