Henderson-Alvarez Set for Showdown in Boston

With the anticipation for the UFC's January 18 event in Boston already heating up, the promotion announced Wednesday that the co-main event of the card headlined by Conor McGregor and Dennis Siver will see former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson take on Eddie Alvarez in what promises to be an early Fight of the Year candidate.

The UFC lightweight champion in 2012-13, Henderson has won nine of his last 11 bouts, including 2014 victories over Josh Thomson and Rustam Khabilov. 10-2 in his last 12, Philadelphia native Alvarez made his long-awaited UFC debut in September, and while he lost a decision to Donald Cerrone, his exciting effort made UFC fans demand a quick return to the Octagon for the Underground King.

In other verbally agreed to main card bouts, #13 ranked lightweight Jorge Masvidal battles Northern Ireland's Norman Parke, and in a middleweight rematch of a 2011 bout, Uriah Hall will attempt to even the score with fellow New Yorker Costas Philippou, who decisioned the TUF 17 finalist in their first matchup.
