Tied to Riyadh Season Noche UFC and in celebration of Mexican Independence, UFC 5 is introducing an exciting new Alter Egos collection that spotlights pivotal moments in Mexican UFC history.
Starting back at UFC 166, Cain Velasquez would defend the UFC heavyweight title against Junior Dos Santo in a highly anticipated rematch. Seeking to even the score against Dos Santos, Velasquez’s performance was nothing short of dominant. Over the course of five rounds, Velasquez showcased relentless pressure, inflicting significant damage on dos Santos with his wrestling prowess and powerful striking. Before the final horn sounded, Velasquez would eventually earn a fifth-round TKO victory – ultimately cementing him as one of the most dominant UFC heavyweights.

At the celebration of UFC’s 25th Anniversary, an important featherweight bout headlined in Denver, Colorado – “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung vs Yair “El Pantera” Rodriguez. Rodriguez, who had his prior fight end via doctor’s stoppage, was hungry to get back into the Octagon against a top contender in Jung. This bout was closely contested, with Jung leading on the judge’s scorecards heading into the 5th round. During the final seconds of round five, one last exchange occurred, where Rodriguez executed a perfectly timed elbow strike, finishing Jung with one second left on the clock. This dramatic conclusion not only earned Rodriguez the "Performance of the Night" bonus, but also the latest finish in UFC history.

Only a few years later at UFC 263, Brandon Moreno would rematch Deiveson Figueiredo for the UFC flyweight championship. Six months after drawing with the incumbent champion, Brandon Moreno would receive another shot at capturing UFC gold – only this time, the judges’ scorecards were not needed. Moreno’s performance in the rematch was extraordinary, as he claimed a decisive victory with a third-round submission via a rear-naked choke, showcasing his technical grappling skills and heart of a champion. This win not only crowned Moreno as the new UFC flyweight champion, but also marked the first time a Mexican-born fighter won a UFC title.
Fast forward to UFC 285 where Alexa Grasso was looking to be the first Mexican-born female fighter to win a UFC title, as she took on the current flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko. The champion started off strong, using her kickboxing to control the pace and keeping Grasso on the defensive. After three close rounds of action, Grasso used her slick grappling and took advantage of an opening left by Shevchenko. With Grasso on her back sinking in the rear naked choke, Shevchenko was left with no choice but to tap – crowning Grasso the new flyweight champion and first Mexican-born female UFC champion.
In honor of these historic performances, all four fighters are now available as Alter Egos in UFC 5! To compliment the new Alter Ego collection, four new active roster fighters have been added as well.
