The Continuation of the WEC Alter Egos Collection is Now Live in UFC 5 Ahead of UFC 315
World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) was a premier MMA organization founded in 2001 that helped launch the careers of some of today’s biggest UFC stars. Known for exciting fights and its focus on lighter weight classes, WEC was instrumental in paving the way for MMA before it merged with UFC in 2010. WEC Alter Egos in EA SPORTS UFC 5bring back iconic moments from the era, honoring the early chapters of legends like Chael Sonnen, Cub Swanson, José Aldo, and Dustin Poirier.
The newest WEC Alter Ego collection allows players to relive a classic Chael Sonnen moment from WEC 36, a rematch fueled by unfinished business. On November 25, 2008, Sonnen faced off with undefeated Paulo Filho, looking to settle the score after a controversial loss in their first meeting a year prior. Despite Filho missing weight, Sonnen showed up locked in and focused, and over three rounds, he outworked and outwrestled the undefeated Filho, securing a unanimous decision win and his revenge.
Next up is a nod to a classic Cub Swanson performance at WEC 44. On November 18, 2009, Swanson stepped into the cage with something to prove against John Franchi. Entering the bout with a 13-3 record, Cub dug deep and delivered a submission in dramatic fashion, locking in a guillotine choke with just 10 seconds left in the third round to secure the win. This version of Swanson captures his trademark grit and flair, and the fan favorite featherweight is now revived in UFC 5.
Also part of the collection is 23-year-old José Aldo from one of the most iconic moments in his career. Riding a nine-fight win streak and holding a 16-1 record, Aldo stepped into the main event of WEC 48 to defend his featherweight title against Urijah Faber. With the belt on the line, Aldo put on a five-round clinic, chopping away at Faber’s lead leg and controlling the pace from start to finish. He walked away with a unanimous decision win and another title defense added to his legacy – showcasing a reminder of why Aldo was must-see TV every time he stepped in the cage.
Closing out the WEC collection is another fan favorite from WEC 52, a 21-year-old Dustin Poirier. Coming off a tough loss and holding a 7-1 record, Poirier came into his fight against Zachary Micklewright with one thing on his mind – making a statement. Poirier wasted no time, exploding out of the gate and swarming Micklewright with heavy shots to earn a TKO finish in just 53 seconds. This version of Poirier captures that early fire and urgency that set the tone for the career that followed.
Also joining the UFC 5 roster is current UFC middleweight, Bryan “The Butcher” Battle, bringing his gritty, no-nonsense fight style to the middleweight division. Fighting out of Charlotte, North Carolina, the 30-year-old has quietly built one of the most consistent runs in the division, going 8-1-1 over his last 10 bouts. Most recently, he picked up a split decision win over Randy Brown at UFC 310, pushing his overall record to 12-2-1. With a growing fanbase and a reputation for staying calm under pressure, Battle now steps into the game ready to prove he belongs among the best.
