Two Mexican superstars got together this week to share ideas, as multiple-division boxing champion Saúl "Canelo" Alvarez and newly crowned flyweight UFC champion Brandon Moreno met in San Diego.
Will Moreno add some boxing techniques that have made Alvarez one of the best boxers in the world today to his arsenal? This is now very likely, because during their meeting, Canelo invited Moreno to train with his team any time he wants.
"I am going to take him at his word,” said Moreno. “I have followed Canelo's career since the beginning, it is an honor to meet him and that he invites me to train with them, it is a great opportunity.
"Surrounding yourself with champions who also share their experience and knowledge with you is something that I definitely appreciate and want to do," continued Moreno, who also shared moments with world champion and former Olympic athlete Oscar Valdez and former heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. All of them congratulated Moreno and urged him not to slow down while staying strong for everything that comes in his future.
“I recently saw an interview you gave on TikTok where you were talking about me, and it gave me goosebumps. I am a fan of people like you. I saw your story since you were starting when you said, 'Maybe not today, not tomorrow, but one day, I will be the UFC champion,' and here we are. Congratulations, Brandon”, Canelo said to Moreno, the first Mexican-born fighter to be crowned champion in the UFC.
Canelo and Moreno not only shared experiences and techniques, but also gloves, on a first meeting that left the doors open for them to train together in the near future.
