CFFC 131: It’s Robert Varricchio’s Show | UFC Fight Pass
“Ruthless” Roberto Varricchio Is Not Shy To Step Up When The Lights Will Shine Brightest, And Is Looking To Use CFFC’s Biggest Card Ever To Punch His Ticket To The UFC.
Cage Fury FC has put together their biggest card to date to kick off the biggest weekend in combat sports history. CFFC 131 will feature multiple title fights and a gang of undefeated fighters in the promotion’s hometown of New Jersey.
Looking down the card, the undefeated records themselves are impressive to have all in one event. Looking closer, you find Robert Varricchio. Not only is Varricchio 5-0, but four of Varricchio’s wins have come by first-round knockout.
This rare accomplishment earned Varricchio a spot on the UFC Fight Pass Fighters to Watch list, an accomplishment that Varricchio was, until now, completely unaware of.
“I am actually speechless, I did not know,” Varricchio said. “It’s an honor and I’m pumped up, it means that all the work I’ve put in is paying off. It’s nice.”
Looking back on each of Varricchio’s CFFC finishes, it is crystal clear how he caught the eye of UFC Fight Pass and how he earned his “Ruthless” nickname so early in his career.
“People have said that I make it look easy, but I think each fighter I’ve fought has been more challenging each time,” Varricchio explained. “I think in CFFC I’ve been challenged more than I’ve been challenged in other promotions, for sure.”
Cage Fury is not holding back on challenges for the New York native, as CFFC 131 will see Varricchio fighting for the interim CFFC lightweight championship against 4-0 Morquez Forest.
Forest has rolled through all four of his CFFC matchups and will be Varricchio’s biggest challenge to date.
Focused only on the next opponent, Varricchio will go into Atlantic City’s Hard Rock Casino with one goal, 6-0.
“The first thing I did was watch film; the dude is good and is 4-0 for a reason,” Varricchio explained. “He’s very explosive and very powerful in his shots. His striking is nothing that I haven’t seen before, but, overall, this dude is good and he’s a very tough prospect. He’s 4-0, solid, but as long as I do what I need to do, I’m bringing home the win.”
A win of any kind may be more than enough to get Varrichio a nod for Dana White’s Contender Series, however, Varricchio has no intention of putting on a boring fight.
“This fight, even though there’s Luke Fernandez, Greg Velasco, and all these great fighters on the card, I know I’m going to go out there and put on a great performance,” Varricchio said. “When I have fun man, it’s really hard not to get entertained.”
If an undefeated record and perfect finish rate are any indication, Varricchio must have a lot of fun in the cage.
While sights are set on a potential UFC call-up in the near future, Varricchio wants to use Cage Fury’s biggest card ever to send a message to the rest of the CFFC lightweights.
“I think the title fight shows that I’m the best 155’er in the division and there’s nothing anyone can use to debate about that,” Varricchio boasted.
It’s hard to debate a perfect record. If “Ruthless” Robert Varricchio can add another quick finish to his already impressive fight resume, it’ll be hard to keep him out of the UFC for long.
