Biography

TRAINING: Striking in the morning and wrestling in the evening.

When and why did you start training for fighting? I started fighting in 2009. My background has been in wrestling, so when I went for boxing classes and eventually into MMA, I started dominating most of the Indian fighters. That’s when I decided to turn pro and test my skills on the global stage.

What ranks and titles have you held? I was the SFL featherweight champion before I left the organization.

Do you have any heroes? Bruce Lee... my all-time hero

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It’s every professional fighter’s dream to fight in the UFC. Being the first Indian, it’s a super prestigious moment for me and my team, but it comes with a lot of pressure to perform. I thank Sean Shelby for believing in my abilities and giving me a chance to fight for this organization.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? Unfortunately, due to financial constraints I couldn't complete schooling.

What was your job before you started fighting? I was the cleaning supervisor of the local corporation in my locality and I coach at Superhuman Gym.

Specific accomplishments in amateur competition? In the village I hail from, we do not get rewarded. We train in the mud with wrestlers one or two weight classes above us and we need to overpower them.

Ranks in any martial arts styles: Blue belt in BJJ

Favorite grappling technique: Clinch and throw

Favorite Striking technique: Jab, straight, left hook to the body
