When and why did you start training for fighting? I've liked doing sports since childhood. First, I started with striking because, at the time, it was more popular in China due to kung fu films. Later, I started to learn wrestling, which really set me off on the path towards becoming a full-fledged MMA fighter. Wrestling is the most important part of MMA, so it was definitely an advantage to have early on when everybody else was strikers.

What ranks and titles have you held? Level-2 Catch wrestler, Taekwondo black belt, Yunnan province kickboxing champion, Road to UFC season three strawweight winner

Do you have any heroes? In my story, I'm the hero.

What would it mean for you to fight in the UFC? Before, I used to take this MMA / wrestling stuff very light-heartedly. Wrestling is physical chess, and it helps keep my mind sharp. It was just a fun hobby allowing me to relax and take my mind off my medical work. Even though I was winning MMA competitions on a regular basis, it was always secondary to my main job as a doctor. However, after being selected to join the UFC Performance Institute in Shanghai, I started treating it more seriously; sort of like a real job. It's definitely an exciting new chapter in my life.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? Yes, I attended medical university in Kunming, and graduated as a licensed doctor.

What was your job before you started fighting? Worked in a hospital as a licensed doctor. Also helping out our foreign residents with their companies in China.

Specific accomplishments in amateur competition? South-west Taekwondo champion, Yunnan province Kickboxing champion. Yunnan Traditional Wrestling tournament winner.
Specific accomplishments in pro competition? Heroine FC champion
