When and why did you start training for fighting? I started training around seven or eight years ago. While I was in the military, I got interested in martial arts by watching it, and as soon as I got out, I immediately started looking for training.
What professional titles have you held? I’ve been the AFC Welterweight, Middleweight Champion, the HEAT Middleweight Champion and the first world champion in sambo from Korea.
Any accomplishments in amateur combat sports? I won the Sambo World Championships as an amateur.
Any belts/ ranks in grappling disciplines? Purple belt in BJJ
Any belts/ ranks in striking disciplines? Judo black belt
What has been your toughest fight to date and why? My first three fights were tough. I was inexperienced, which made me really tired, and I used up a lot of energy, so it was very challenging.
Who is your favorite fighter and why? My favorite fighters are Bo Nickal, Dong Hyun Kim, Robbie Lawler, and Jon Jones. Watching their matches inspired me to become a fighter.
Did you attend university, and if so, what degree did you earn? I dropped out of Kyonggi University.
What job did you have before starting MMA? Before starting MMA, I did various part-time jobs.
Origin of your nickname: My nickname was suggested by Dong Hyun Kim because he said I look like him.
Personal life/background: I have parents and an older brother. I enjoy drinking coffee and traveling.
