When and why did you start training for fighting? I started training 13 years ago. I started because I became interested in the sport and fell in love with it.
What professional titles have you held? CageSport Featherweight and Lightweight Champion, Prime Fighting Featherweight Champion
Any accomplishments in amateur combat sports? Was 10-0
Any belts/ranks in grappling disciplines? Black belt in BJJ
What fight do you consider to be the key fight in your career and why? My win over Sean Woodson is the most meaningful fight to me. It really embodies my fighting style and my personality. Took an opportunity on three days notice to keep my dreams alive, biggest underdog on that card, most likely down two rounds, but rallied in the third to get the d’arce finish and more importantly get my dream job back.
Who is your favorite fighter and why? Charles Olivera is my favorite fighter! I like to fight like him and love his kill-or-be-killed style and attitude.
Do you have any heroes outside of fighting? My hero outside of fighting has always been my father.
Is there a cause that you want to use your platform for? I like to show people that it's more important to get back on the horse when you get knocked down versus always succeeding since my UFC career embodies that.
Beyond a championship or money, what motivates you? My family is my main motivation, and even more since my son was born two years ago.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? AA in accounting
What was your job before you started fighting? College student. I was fortunate to have support from my family to help me financially so I could train full-time
Personal Life: I'm an adrenaline junkie; I enjoy anything exciting. Been skating and snow boarding my whole life. I’ve been with my wife over 15 years and my son was a miracle through IVF.
