When and why did you start training for fighting? I’ve been wrestling since I was 12, started kickboxing a few years after that. After high school I didn’t really have a career in mind, so I pursued MMA.

Who is your favorite fighter and why? I'd have to say Dustin Poirier because he embodies the spirit of what it is to be a fighter, in victory and defeat. Cory Sandhagen is up there too.

Do you have any heroes? I look up to lots of people, but I wouldn’t say I have any heroes.

What are your current ranks in martial arts? Purple belt in BJJ.

What would it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It would mean a lot. I’ve worked my whole life to get there, so it’s an important step in my life.

What fight do you consider to be the key fight in your career and why? The key fight is always the next one, but my DWCS fight was a turning point in my career, as it really let me know that I'm at a high level and ready for the UFC.

Is there a cause that you want to use your platform for? I come from a pretty rough town, so I want to show the youth that it's possible to do what you want and get more out of life if you're willing to work for it.

Beyond a championship or money, what motivates you? Growing as a man. Earning life experience. Building a strong character.

What was your job before you started fighting? Worked at Steak ‘N Shake briefly, but mostly I’ve focused on fighting.

Favorite grappling technique: Whatever works best at that moment in time

Favorite Striking technique: Overhand right

Tell us about your life outside of fighting: I recently got engaged to my high school sweetheart, and we have a dog. She works very hard to support my career in MMA, and my hope is to have enough success where she doesn't have to work anymore.

What is one thing that you want UFC fans around the world to know about you? I care deeply about this game. I'm still young and I'm still a student, studying every day. This is my life, and I want the fans to watch me grow as an athlete and move up the ranks to the highest level.
