When and why did you start training for fighting? I was always interested in MMA and wanted to train because I was such a big fan of PRIDE. But there were no places for me to train at that time. In 2008, when a Jiu-Jitsu academy opened up in my neighborhood I started training there immediately.
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? As an MMA fighter, it is a dream come true to be fighting in the biggest promotion in the world.
What ranks and titles have you held? UFC Hall of Famer (Fight wing for Swanson fight), Black Belt in BJJ
Who is your favorite fighter and why? I respect all fighters, but I especially admire fighters who put on exciting fights that make the fans’ hearts race.
Do you have any heroes outside of fighting? My mother is the first person who comes to mind.
What fight do you consider to be the key fight in your career and why? I would say my fight with Cub Swanson. Sometimes I still wonder how my career might have been different if I had won that fight.
Is there a cause that you want to use your platform for? I would like to use my platform to help children who don’t have adults in their lives who can care for and support them.
Beyond a championship or money, what motivates you? Fighting is what I love most, and I have dedicated my entire life to it. I know I won’t be able to do this forever, so that motivates me to give everything I have while I still can.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I graduated from Gumi Kyungun University with a degree in Security.
What was your job before you started fighting? I started training to be an MMA fighter right out of high school.
