When and why did you start training for fighting? I was 17 years old when I started training. I have always loved watching martial arts and wanted to learn some new skills. I started fighting when I was 18 years old because it was my dream to be a professional fighter.

Any accomplishments in amateur combat sports? Beast lightweight champion

What are your current ranks in martial arts?

  • BJJ Black Belt under Steve Compton
  • Wrestled under Erik Simmons - D1 Wrestler from the United States
  • Australian Amatuer MMA Champion
  • Pan-Pacific BJJ Gold Medalist
  • Was winning black belt divisions as a purple belt

What has been your toughest fight to date and why? Quillan Sallkilld, I fought him for the Eternal title and he brought a hell of a fight. We went back and forth in some crazy grappling exchanges. It was an extremely high paced fight that forced me to dig deep.

What fight do you consider to be the key fight in your career and why? Yuji (round 1 RTU) - I was a massive underdog with a far from perfect camp and still took out what many had picked as the #1 seed. It showcased the unwavering self belief that I have and my ability to fight through all adversity.

Who is your favorite fighter and why? Jack Della, I believe he has the best jab in MMA, his ability to switch hit and land powerful strikes. His scrambles have the ability to negate some of the best grapplers in the sport

Beyond a championship or money, what motivates you? Proving all of the people who have stood by me and supported me through the highs and lows that they were right for believing in me and capitalising on the opportunities that their support have helped me earn. And also proving the haters wrong! Their negativity inspires me more than they could ever imagine.

Origin of nickname: It started as a nickname with some friends. It was a take on Jorge Masvidal’s Street Jesus. But being Half-Chinese, we adopted “Street Buddha”

What is one thing that you want UFC fans around the world to know about you? I want them to remember me as a tenacious, unrelenting and violent force in the UFC lightweight division. I want to be regarded as one of the best to ever do it.

Who are 3 people you'd love to meet or work with? Khabib Nurmagamedov, Daniel Cormier, Charles Oliviera

What are your hobbies, activities or other interests when not training for a fight? In my time away from training I like to play Xbox.
