When and why did you start training for fighting? I have been doing sports since childhood. I earned my first karate belt when I was nine years old. And it was obvious to me that I needed to continue.
What ranks and titles have you held? M-1 Global Heavyweight Champion 2016. Winner of two Grand Prix Bellator Fighting Championships (Heavyweight) 2012, 2014. M-1 Eastern European tournament Runner-Up 2010
Who is your favorite fighter and why? I don’t have a favorite fighter. I respect fighters who combine strength, intelligence, and discipline — fighters who control the fight instead of just moving forward.
Do you have any heroes outside of fighting? I’m inspired by people who stay disciplined and keep improving over time. It doesn’t matter what field they’re in — what matters is that they don’t break under pressure and keep moving forward.
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? This is a very important stage in my career and is a great experience.
What fight do you consider to be the key fight in your career and why? I’ve had many important fights in my career. One of the early key fights was against Ibrahim Magomedov. I was still young, and that fight made me decide to fully commit to a professional fighting career. In the UFC, important fights for me were against Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum. These are high-level opponents, and fights like that show you where you really stand. But overall, I see every fight as important. Each one is a challenge and a step forward.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? Graduated from The Bauman Moscow State Technical University in 2011. Diploma of Engineer.
What was your job before you started fighting? I became a professional fighter when I was a full-time student.
Specific accomplishments in amateur competition? Ashihara Karate Champion of Moscow. Three-time Pankration Champion of Moscow
Ranks in any martial arts styles: I started training at a young age. My base is Ashihara and Kyokushin karate — full-contact styles. I won the Russian junior championship and placed in multiple tournaments. Later I transitioned into mixed styles, competed in pankration, and won the Moscow championship multiple times.
Currently, I hold:
— a 3rd-degree black belt in karate
— a black belt in jiu-jitsu
Is there a cause you would like to use your platform for? I believe in discipline and conscious self-development. I want to show that strength is not just physical — it’s about mindset, character, and self-control.
Beyond a championship or money, what motivates you? What motivates me is growth. Fighting is the most honest way to test yourself and understand your real level. I want to keep getting better — not just as a fighter, but as a person.
Favorite grappling technique: Triangle choke
Favorite Striking technique: High kick
Tell us about your life outside of fighting: I have a family and two sons. It’s important for me to be present and to be an example for them. Outside of fighting, I focus on personal development — I’m interested in philosophy, mindset, and discipline. I enjoy being active, but I mostly use my free time to improve myself and find ways to become more efficient in training. I follow a simple principle: everything I do in life either helps my performance or works against it. So I try to build habits that support my performance.
