LAS VEGAS – Two of the most dynamic light heavyweights in the game clash on Sunday, March 21, when Muay Thai ace Brandon “The Truth” Vera takes on dangerous 22-year-old phenom Jon “Bones” at the Odeum Colorado in Broomfield, Colo. The fight will air live on VERSUS at 9 p.m. ET marking the debut of the Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC®) on VERSUS and the first time that a live UFC event will air on a national sports cable network.

VERSUS has been the national cable television home of World Extreme Cagefighting® (WEC®) since 2007 and in December 2009, the network announced a multi-year extension with Zuffa LLC., the owners of both the WEC and UFC®, to air two live UFC events in 2010 in addition to seven live WEC fights.

“This is a fight that could go anywhere, and that’s the beauty of this matchup,” UFC President Dana White said. “Brandon Vera and Jon Jones represent the future of this sport in that they are both dangerous strikers and well-versed grapplers. This is the perfect fight for our return to Colorado and our debut on VERSUS, and we’re committed to giving UFC fans an event to remember.”

Tickets for this event will go on sale Saturday, January 16 at 10 a.m. MT and are $300, $150, $75, and $50 (plus applicable service charges). Tickets will be available for purchase at www.tickethorse.com and the Pepsi Center Box Office.

UFC® Fight Club™ members will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to this event Thursday, January 14 at 10 a.m. MT via the website ufc.com. A special Internet ticket pre-sale will be available to UFC newsletter subscribers Friday, January 15 starting at 10 a.m. MT. To access this presale, users must register for the UFC newsletter through ufc.com.

With an outstanding seven total wins in the Octagon™ at light heavyweight and heavyweight, Brandon Vera (fighting out of San Diego, Calif., 11-4 professional record) has the versatility to mix it up in both weight classes and has proven he is dangerous on his feet or on the ground. The 32-year-old Norfolk, Virginia native is coming off a memorable matchup against UFC legend Randy Couture at UFC 105, and before that fight last November, the Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt bested Michael Patt via TKO due to devastating leg kicks and earned a unanimous decision victory against Krzysztof Soszynski. Now the former U.S. Air Force member looks to stop the ascension of rising star Jon “Bones” Jones.

“I’m honored to be headlining the first ever UFC on VERSUS,” said Vera. “On March 21st, when I fight Jon Jones, we’re gonna find out how hard his “Bones” are.”

Winner of his first three fights in the UFC, Jon Jones (fighting out of Endicott, N.Y., 9-1) has made an immediate impression in the Octagon and looks to get one step closer to a light heavyweight title shot. After earning unanimous decision victories over Andre Gusmao and Stephan Bonnar in his first two UFC fights, the former junior college national wrestling champion submitted Jake O’Brien at UFC 100 last July and was dominating veteran Matt Hamill before losing by a controversial disqualification in December. An unorthodox striker that never puts on a boring show, the 6-foot-4, 205-pound Rochester, New York born fighter faces his greatest test against the well-rounded Vera.

“I’m really starting to believe in myself and that I do belong here at the top,” said Jones. “I’m working really hard and I know you have to fight the best and beat the best in order to be the best, and that’s what I’ll be doing when I take on Brandon Vera on March 21st.”

The remaining bouts will be announced in the near future.
