UFC fighter Tim Kennedy supports Army Combatives with free seminar

FORT BRAGG, NC —Tim Kennedy, a professional mixed martial arts fighter with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, is scheduled to give a free seminar for Department of Defense identification card holders and their families at 6 p.m., Dec. 12 at the 82nd Airborne Division’s Combatives and Advanced Tactics School.

Kennedy’s seminar wraps up the first day of the 2013 Fort Bragg Army Combatives Championship Invitational, Dec. 12 through 14, where competitors complete official weigh-in and registration.

“We are pleased to have Tim here to share his experience with our Paratroopers,” said Staff Sgt. Jeffrey Yurk, noncommissioned officer in charge of the tournament and the 82nd Airborne Division Combatives and Advanced Tactics School.  “We are especially proud of the more than 400 Soldiers from around the world who will showcase their skills this weekend.”

The elimination and intermediate matches will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ritz-Epps Physical Fitness Center, Dec. 13.  Kennedy, an active National Guardsman and former Fort Bragg Green Beret, is expected to be available from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. to meet and greet tournament attendees before the finals and exhibition matches Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. at Sports USA.

“Whether participating in the tournament, taking our tactical application courses, or even stepping up to fight in an exhibition; each one offers tools essential to today’s total Warrior,” said Yurk.  “This tournament will showcase the attributes of great leaders on all levels.”
