Live from Rio de Janeiro, Shooto Brazil returns to UFC FIGHT PASS on Sunday, October 18 with a 15-fight card headlined by a women’s strawweight rematch between Priscila de Souza and Luciana Pereira. With former bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz and Jason Chambers on the call, Sunday afternoon’s action is sure to satisfy your need for mixed martial arts excitement this weekend.
De Souza and Pereira first met earlier this year, with the 26-year-old Parana Vale Tudo representative de Souza claiming a split decision victory. That win halted Pereira’s three-fight unbeaten streak, but the close nature of the contest made a second meeting between the two something that was easy to put together.

The 34-year-old Pereira’s previous loss before her April setback came opposite current UFC standout Jessica Andrade, who is a teammate of de Souza’s at PVT and is exploring making the move down in weight to potentially compete in the 115-pound ranks going forward.
While Pereira hasn’t fought since their first meeting in April, de Souza has stayed extremely active, stepping into the cage four more times, dropping consecutive contests in May and early August before picking up back-to-back wins three weeks apart in advance of Sunday’s main event rematch.
Although there are not any names that will be familiar to UFC fans competing on Sunday, Shooto Brazil has become one of the top organizations the UFC turns to when searching for new talent from the South American MMA hotbed, with fighters like Jose Aldo, Renan Barao, Glover Teixeira and Gabriel Gonzaga all competing in the promotion during their respective careers.
This weekend, there are a handful of Brazilian talents worth keeping an eye on stepping into the cage. Here’s a look at some of the fighters we think you should check out Sunday at Shooto Brazil 58.
Joilton Peregrino (10-3, 1NC): this 22-year-old welterweight has only lost once in his last six outings, with that setback coming against Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira, who has won back-to-back outings in the UFC after dropping his debut to Gilbert Burns following his win over Peregrino.
Roberto Corvo (7-1): coming off an 18-second technical knockout win over Daniel de Franca at Shooto Brazil 42 back in August, the 26-year-old Nova Uniao welterweight has earned five consecutive victories, with his lone loss coming against former Ultimate Fighter contestant Joseph “Leonidas” Henle in August 2009.
Nikolas Motta (6-1): Motta is exactly the type of fighter you tune into shows like Shooto Brazil 58 to check out – a 22-year-old with four straight wins and five of his six career victories coming by way of TKO. It’s been more than two years since his last setback and if he can get through Elismar Carrasco on Sunday in impressive fashion, he could be someone we see in the featherweight division in 2016.
Junior Negao (6-1): much like Motta, Negao is another youngster from the Nova Uniao camp that bears watching. Just 20 years old, he’s already got seven fights under his belt and while he hasn’t competed beyond the Brazilian regional circuit, training with an elite team and showing an ability to pick up victories during those formative years is a good initial indicator of potential future success.
Alcides Nunes (5-0): unbeaten thus far in his career, Nunes returns to action after collecting a first-round submission win over Junior Goncalves back in April to face 19-year-old Denilson “Trator” Neves, who has picked up three wins since losing to Guilherme Doin in May of this year.
