Cormier-Gustafsson Heads to Houston

UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will make the first defense of his title on Saturday, October 3, as he battles number two-ranked contender Alexander "The Mauler" Gustafsson in the main event of UFC 192 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

Tickets for UFC 192 go on sale on Friday, July 31. Previously announced for the card is another important light heavyweight showdown, as Rashad Evans returns to face Ryan Bader.

Former United States Olympian Cormier struck gold in the UFC in May, when he submitted Anthony Johnson to win the vacant 205-pound world title. Now he will meet up with Sweden's Gustafsson, a former title challenger who nearly lifted the crown from Jon Jones in their 2013 classic.

"I think Alexander is a great opponent," Cormier said. "He has great hands and footwork and is truly a complete martial artist. Alex is a guy who has been in wars and has shown a true champion's heart. I look forward to the challenge."

"It's great to have a date set for theis fight and I'm ready for my title shot," Gustafsson added. "I'm very focused and motivated for this fight but also I'm very grateful for the opportunity. I can't wait, bring it on."
