Veteran middleweight contender Ivan Salaverry returns to the Octagon for the first time in close to two years on May 26th when he takes on Terry Martin at UFC 71 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Owner of wins over Andrei Semenov, Tony Fryklund, and Joe Riggs, Salaverry’s pedigree in mixed martial arts is unquestioned, and his return to the division beefs up an already stacked weight class.
“Terry Martin is a very aggressive fighter with a strong wrestling and boxing background,” said Salaverry. “He is going to be a tough fight but the crowd will love it.”
After his 14 second annihilation of Jorge Rivera in his middleweight debut in February, Martin is primed and ready for battle against Salaverry, his toughest foe to date. In fact, Chicago’s Martin, who recently earned his Masters degree from Concordia University and who is now working on his doctorate in clinical psychology, is already working on mind games with his opponent.
“I’m gonna knock ‘Billie Jean’ out,” said Martin. “Why is ‘Billie Jean’ his nickname? Because I looked at him fight and he dances around the ring.”
Tickets for UFC 71, which is headlined by the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout between Chuck Liddell and Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, are on sale now.
