Nothing soothes the sting of defeat like a victory, and at UFC 62 on Saturday, August 26, four fighters will look back to bounce back from recent losses in two matchups that are sure to get the crowd at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada roaring.
In a welterweight bout, hard-nosed Josh Neer will face Thiago Alves, and light heavyweights Wes Combs and Wilson Gouveia will throw hands in a three rounder of their own.
Combs, who suffered the first loss of his MMA career in June when he was submitted by Mike Nickels, respects Gouveia, who dropped a hard-fought three round decision to Keith Jardine in June as well, but he’ll only have one thing on his mind on August 26th.
“He has a solid camp, and he’s a tough guy, but after my last performance I have to crush somebody, and it looks like it is going to be Wilson,” said Combs.
American Top Team’s Gouveia promises fireworks when these two 205 pounders meet.
“I heard he won a lot of fights by KO and TKO, and that he's supposed to be a heavy hitter,” said Gouveia of his opponent. “It should be an exciting fight because I like to stand and trade too. I think the fans will enjoy this one because they’re probably going to see a knockout.”
Gouveia’s teammate, Alves, has never turned away from a good scrap in the Octagon, and though he was stopped in a June battle with Jon Fitch, he’s not gun-shy about his upcoming battle with Neer, who came up short via decision to Josh Burkman at UFC 61 in July.
“I know we are both coming off losses, and he's a tough guy, so I'm sure it will be a war,” said ‘The Pitbull’. “I'm going to go in there looking for a knockout and I’ll do my best to win.”
Also added to the UFC 62 card - which will air live on pay-per-view beginning at 10pm ET / 7pm PT - will be a battle between light heavyweight newcomers Cory Walmsley and David Heath.
Tickets for UFC 62, which is headlined by the UFC light heavyweight championship bout between Chuck Liddell and Renato ‘Babalu’ Sobral and the highly-anticipated rematch between Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar, are on sale now. To purchase tickets, click here.
