Former UFC middleweight title challenger David Terrell will attempt to build on the momentum from his April win over Scott Smith when he battles Japanese veteran Yushin Okami at UFC 62, which will be held on Saturday, August 26, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Tickets for UFC 62, which is headlined by the UFC light heavyweight championship bout between Chuck Liddell and Renato ‘Babalu’ Sobral and the highly-anticipated rematch between Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar, are on sale now. To purchase tickets, click here.
10-2 in mixed martial arts, Santa Rosa, California’s Terrell roared onto the UFC scene in 2004 with a 24 second knockout of world-class contender Matt Lindland. ‘The Soul Assassin’ hit the wall in his next bout, getting stopped by Evan Tanner in a bout for the vacant UFC middleweight crown in February of 2005, but after a 14 month layoff due to injury, Terrell returned at UFC 59 and submitted up and comer Smith at 3:08 of the opening round, leading him into this matchup against the 25-year-old Pancrase, Pride, and K-1 veteran Okami, a native of Kanagawa who has won eight of his last nine, including a submission win over UFC vet Nick Thompson and a DQ victory over current middleweight contender Anderson Silva.
“Yushin Okami is going to be a very difficult opponent to beat,” said Terrell. “He went 15 minutes with (world-class grappler) Jake Shields, which is not easy; I know what that is like. He's got a good won/loss record, and his wins are scattered among striking, subs, and decisions. I know he will be well-trained, and has a very good all around MMA background. I’m definitely going to spend some time with Jake Shields before this fight.”
