Ortiz vs Griffin II on for November 21st

By Thomas Gerbasi

In April of 2006, Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin engaged in an unforgettable three round battle that left fans demanding a rematch between two of the best light heavyweights on the planet. On Saturday, November 21st, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Ortiz and Griffin will finally meet again in the co-main event of UFC 106: Lesnar vs. Carwin.

This long-awaited rematch came about when Ortiz’ original opponent for UFC 106, Hall of Famer Mark Coleman, was forced to withdraw from the bout due to a MCL tear in his knee suffered during training camp. Stepping into the bout is Griffin, who is looking for redemption against Ortiz after losing a razor thin split decision to “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim on April 15, 2006.

In that bout, Ortiz tore into Griffin at the opening bell, almost finishing the fight with his trademark ground and pound attack. Amazingly, Griffin survived the assault and roared back over the next two rounds, teaming with Ortiz for an instant classic. After 15 minutes, the judges declared Ortiz the winner, but the back and forth nature of the bout made it a natural for a rematch.

In November, with both men having weathered the ups and downs of the fight game over the last three years, they meet again.

Tickets for UFC 106, which is headlined by the heavyweight championship bout between Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin, priced at $1,000, $750, $500, $300, $200 and $100, not including applicable service charges, are on sale now at all Las Vegas Ticketmaster locations (select Smith’s Food and Drug Centers and Ritmo Latino). To charge by phone with a major credit card, call Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000. Tickets also are available for purchase at www.UFC.com, www.mandalaybay.com, or www.ticketmaster.com.

UFC 106 will be available live on pay-per-view on iN DEMAND, DIRECTV, DISH Network, TVN, BellTV, Shaw Communications and Viewer’s Choice Canada for a suggested retail price of $44.95 for standard definition or high-definition broadcasts (where available).

I just saw Tito's back x-ray. I deal with back and leg pain 24-7 and if I was Tito I'd say there isn't enough money in the world to make me risk making things worse. He's still young and strong but this will all catch up with him some day and 24 hours can be be a long time unless your so doped up it doesn't matter. Good luck Tito.

I've been waiting for the bad boys return since his fight with machida, love him or hate him he always brings it no matter what and puts on a good show. This should be a good fight, even though i like both fighters i gotta give the edge to tito, he's already beat griffin once, even if it was by decision, and forrest had to have had his confidence knocked big time with that loss to silva, i think tito will be training his ass off for this fight up at big bear. If tito takes it to the floor its all over, but whatever the outcome i think it will be a fight to remember :)
