By Junie Allen BrowningLAST WEEK’S MEDIA BLITZDoing all the interviews I did last week was sorta weird. A year ago, before I was on the show, people would do anything to avoid talking to me. Now it’s like everyone’s trying to get a hold of me. That’s the magic of TV. It’s good though. Because of where I’m from in Kentucky, if you’re not with a big camp and especially one that hasn’t had a big fighter come out yet, it’s hard to get your name out there. I think that’s the most positive thing about the show, that you can get your name out there.
POST-FIGHT I understand where Frank (Mir) was coming from after my fight with (Roli) Delgado, especially being the first lightweight pick. He was disappointed with my cardio, and I just wasn’t pushing the pace like I normally do. When I get tired, I fight real lazy, and I think he knew that. He’s seen me train, he’s seen me fight, and he knows I’m a lot better than that, so he had a right to be upset. He warned me about drinking that night too, and the night of the fight, I don’t think I drank. But the scary thing is, I don’t remember.
RAFAEL ALEJARRAConditioning-wise, working with Alejarra was the best workout I ever had. It was pretty intense and horrible at the same time. The only way you can even finish the workout is by having people screaming at you and making you do it. I don’t think anyone can do that workout without being pushed.
NIGHTS WITH NOGUEIRAThey’re real family-oriented over there. Every day they brought the whole family over – it reminded me of The Waltons. We definitely weren’t as close as they were, and I just wanted more stuff to go on in the house. I was getting tired of Team Nogueira sitting around the table talking about the economy, the weather, and how much they loved each other, so it would be nice to have a little bit more drama.
MAGALHAES VS NOGUEIRAI never heard Vinny say anything about Nogueira, so I don’t know where that came from. A lot of people in the house would run their mouths and tell Nogueira that Vinny was saying stuff, but I don’t believe that’s true. It’s starting to feel like high school in the house, especially with Nogueira’s team, who definitely acted like a bunch of high school girls, gossiping all the time.
MAGALHAES VS BRUCHEZTo be honest, I don’t think Jules could have won a fight at 155. I don’t see him being any sort of competition for the lightweights. I honestly think Vinny could have finished him faster. I think he was playing around with him because we were talking before the fight about how he should finish Jules. I was telling Vinny that he should put him in a flying triangle, and he was purposely trying to finish him in a submission that we told him to. That’s why he didn’t push the standup; he was looking for a clinch or something so he could pull off a flying armbar or triangle. He was just having fun. I think his warmup was tougher than the fight was.
