The last week of camp was another hard week, and today for the start of fight week I’ll hit mitts, and do some light grappling, and cardio. Tomorrow is the travel day. Depending on what time we get in and what I have to do when I get there in terms of media stuff, I’ll either do some cardio or a mitts, grappling, and cardio workout. The next couple of days are the same thing – just going through the motions, staying loose and staying on point, making sure everything’s really sharp. I’m not exerting myself a great deal, but I make sure I get to blow my lungs out at least once a day. Thursday night the weight cut starts.
A lot of people have asked me about the intangibles in the fight when it comes to St-Pierre. Well, one of the advantages of having someone around who fought GSP (Josh Koscheck) is that some of those intangibles become tangible. He can explain the elements that are intangible, the things that you can’t see on tape. That makes him a little more real to me. When Josh fought GSP, he was looking to put him into a dogfight, but he had the wrong gameplan going into the dogfight. He wanted to go in there and stand with St-Pierre because he thought there was no way anybody was gonna take him down and he didn’t train any wrestling. So he came in shorthanded for that fight, and that’s not going to be the case in my fight – I’m not coming in shorthanded at all, and the biggest thing for me is to not worry about what GSP’s gonna do. I’m just gonna instill my game plan and do what I want to do, and that’s how I’m gonna win this fight.
As far as everything else goes when it comes to fight week, I’m gonna make sure I keep this week as business as usual as I can. A big part of that is just camping out in my room and not getting caught up in anything. I’ve got my people and my camp around me that can get anything I need done, like getting me my food and getting me to where I need to be. I’m fine with camping out like that. I might bring a Playstation or my laptop, but mostly I sleep that week. I’m resting and sleeping a lot, so it doesn’t bother me at all. I’ve basically been locked up for 12 weeks so far, so an extra week isn’t a problem, and it’s actually fun to be out of my house and to be in a hotel for a week.
And come August 10th, I’m looking forward to waking up, opening my eyes, and seeing the morning sun shine off my brand new belt.
