• Had longest title reign in UFC history
• Tied for second most takedowns landed in UFC history
• Lands 61% ground strikes
Ortiz is at the top or near the top of the rankings for a lot of UFC records relating to time. With this fight, Ortiz will tie Liddell for most fights in UFC history with 22. He’s also second all-time in rounds fought.
Before there were seemingly unbeatable champs like Anderson Silva, Tito Ortiz was the immovable object at 205 pounds. Ortiz held the Light Heavyweight belt from April 2000 until September 2003. That reign, for three years, six months, and 13 days is the longest duration any UFC champion has held his belt. In that same period, Ortiz defended his belt on five consecutive occasions. That ties him with Matt Hughes and Anderson Silva for the most consecutive defenses in UFC history.
In their first fight, Ortiz was able to get a split decision on the strength of his takedowns and ground and pound. It was the kind of performance that Ortiz has made a career of. Ortiz is currently tied with Georges St. Pierre for the most takedowns landed in UFC history with 51. He already holds the record for most takedowns ever attempted in the UFC.
With this fight, Ortiz could easily move into first place all time for most ground strikes landed in UFC history. He’s currently behind St. Pierre and Randy Couture, but needs only 16 strikes to take the top spot. For his career, Ortiz has landed 61% of his power strikes on the ground.
