Biography

TRAINING: Hmm. Well, normally I'll get up two hours before my first workout, I'll put some time in on mud and get a few levels with my teammate Kyle Schlitt. I'll go train then come back and try and get some reading in. I am trying to read a book a week...key word, trying. I'll put some work in on some video games since I am trying to turn pro in a few of those, which normally means I forget about some other responsibility I have (UFC paper work, sorry Joe). I go back for my second training session, which is normally the hardest. Train super hard and come home and eat dinner and try to go to sleep early…key word, try.

When and why did you start training for fighting? I started training when I was around 20 years old. I was big PRIDE guy and I wanted a piece of that glory.

What ranks and titles have you held? Victory Fighting Championship lightweight champion

Do you have any heroes? I have never really been able to answer that and my answer is normally no. If I had to answer right now, Neil Degrasse Tyson and Richard Dawkins.

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It means the last seven years haven't been a waste of time. It validates everything I have been working towards.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I attended Kansas State University for two years for human nutrition. I realized I knew more than all my nutrition teachers so I thought, ‘why am I wasting my money?’

What was your job before you started fighting? Librarian

Specific accomplishments in pro competition?
I took a 50-2 pro kickboxer to a decision in Poland on two weeks’ notice for my first kickboxing match.
