Biography

TRAINING: My days start at 6am and finish at 7pm. Throughout these days, I have wrestling and stand-up work, with boxing and striking training, strength and conditioning and certain days with bio and outside gym work. On others, it’s a constant program, and we work hard at every aspect to make me a better athlete.

When and why did you start training for fighting? I started fighting in 2008, although I have been doing martial arts since the age of 9, with a start in karate. It wasn't until my late twenties that I started to fight competitively, off the back of a rugby career that didn't take off. It was rugby that took me into a career of MMA. It was by seeking better conditioning for rugby that I found a love for MMA.

What ranks and titles have you held? Two-time EFCAFRICA champion and EFC worldwide champion

Do you have any heroes? A large part of my heroes are great South African sportsmen. But in MMA I admire great fighters like GSP, Jon Jones, Anderson Silva, Vitor Belfort and Chuck Liddell.

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It’s a dream come true and extremely humbling to reach the level it brings. I’m grateful for the opportunity and excited to show my ability.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I didn't, as I was playing rugby. I did study for a short period but never finished my degree.

What was your job before you started fighting? I worked in the family business.

Specific accomplishments in pro competition? South African grappling champion, JKA and All-Styles South African karate champion
