Biography

TRAINING: Training for me never changes. We don’t run practices based on opponents; we train to be prepared for any kind of fighter at any aspect of the sport, whether it’s a standing battle, a ground war, or a scramble fest. We prepare ourselves for it all daily.

Thoughts on opponent, Jan Blachowicz? Jan’s a good fighter, but he’s beatable. He throws hard kicks and nice strikes and I’ll definitely have to come to the cage ready for a war. I think the fight is a huge opportunity for me, especially coming off my loss against Gian Villante. Not only is it big because after coming off a loss they are giving me a fight against a higher-ranked guy, but after the performance I put on in April, My fan following grew and a lot of people are anxious to see me get back in there and put on yet another show for the UFC fans. Also, I am making my PPV debut, so it’s just another spark of excitement to add to the fire. Jan is a highly respected and well-known fighter in the sport and I’m prepared and excited to get in there and show my skills and put myself to a new test.

When and why did you start training for fighting? I started fighting in 2012 after graduating college and training to try out for the Olympic wrestling team with Ben Askren. He persuaded me into the sport of mixed martial arts instead.

Do you have any heroes?
