TRAINING: A typical day of training for me is the morning pro team session at Alliance MMA. Live wrestling, drills, technique, small glove sparring. Then live sparring rounds, 2 morning sessions per week. Evening sessions are either strength and conditioning, pad work or drilling with a teammate. I also squeeze in a treadmill sprint circuit twice a week.
When and why did you start training for fighting? I have studied martial arts most of my life. I came across BJJ about six or seven years ago and fell in love. I started competing and dominated. I wanted to try my hand at the real thing and was very successful with MMA too. So it all just snowballed for me.
What ranks and titles have you held? None
Do you have any heroes? Bruce Lee, Elvis Presley, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? Being able to support my family financially. Feeling like I am worth something to be in the most elite fighting organization on the planet. Recognition. Having the ability to inspire and reach a larger audience, as well as entertain.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? No
What was your job before you started fighting? Construction and commercial painter.
Specific accomplishments in amateur competition? Victorian and Pan Pacific BJJ champion and gold medalist.
