When and why did you start training for fighting? "I started fight training in 1996 to stay in shape after I finished with college wrestling."
What ranks and titles do you hold? South African National Freestyle Wrestling Champion. Two-time All-American Wrestler (NJCAA) and a one-time runner up. The 1998 WPKO Light Heavyweight champion (amateur title)
What is your favorite technique? "I don't really have a favorite; I think the technique with which I win the fight is the favorite technique at that time."
Do you have any heroes? Jesus Christ.
What are your hobbies? "Training kids. Relaxing."
What is your favorite movie? Lord of the Rings
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? "It means 22 years of wrestling and seven years of fight training have finally amounted to something, and all the sweat and blood was worth it."
Did you go to college and what degree did you earn? "I wrestled in college for two years and one semester but took only general studies. After I started fighting I had no time for school."
What was your job before you started fighting? School.
What is your biggest weapon in a fight? "My will and my heart."
