Solomon HutchersonWhen and why did you start training for fighting? I was an avid wrestler in freestyle and folkstyle, but due to personal problems I had to cut my wrestling career short, and I never found anything to replace it with. I tried boxing, but I didn’t have the same fervor for boxing that I had for wrestling. Then I ran into a buddy of mine, Nick Agallar, and he introduced me to mixed martial arts. It was a great avenue for me to take my frustrations out and better myself.
What ranks and titles have you held? I won the Ring of Fury in Boston. Do you have any heroes? Tito Ortiz – I’m living out a dream training with him; Quinton Jackson is a really big influence due to our similarities in style of fighting; Ivan Salaverry, BJ Penn, Matt Hughes, Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture.
What is your favorite technique? Ground and Pound.
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It’s a dream come true and a blessing. I always watched the UFC and had it in the back of my mind about whether I could do it. With the events that transpired, I’ve been let know that I can and I will.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? Triton Junior College – I was studying fire science, but due to having a child, I had to abandon that and get a job as soon as possible.
What was your job before you started fighting? I was working construction for a little company out of Oak Creek, Wisconsin – Black Diamond.
