Sarah KaufmanTRAINING: My training regiment is quite similar to most of my other fights. I work with Tyler Goodale on my strength and conditioning (3 strength, 3 conditioning) in the mornings, then work technique and fight specific conditioning in the evenings. I train 6 days a week with 2-3 sessions per day. Typically, the morning session alternates between weights and conditioning, and the evening sessions are a mix of boxing, MMA, grappling, and wrestling specific training. I leave my day to day plan up to my coach, Adam Zugec, and he decides what I'm doing.
When and why did you start training for fighting? I started training in Muay Thai at 17 when Adam Zugec opened ZUMA below my dance studio. After training for a couple of years I wanted to try competing in local tournaments to test myself and for the challenge. After a couple of those, Adam asked if I wanted to take my first pro fight on June 3, 2006. I said "YES" and fell in love with the sport. What ranks and titles have you held? Strikeforce Welterweight World Champion, Hardcore Championship Fighting Bantamweight World Champion, BJJ Purple Belt Do you have any heroes? For the most part I look up to anyone who is doing what he/she wants to do and putting everything he/she has into it. Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I did 2 years of a Biology Degree at University of Victoria. I originally wanted to go to med school, but decided part way through that it was the wrong path for me. What was your job before you started fighting? I used to be a cashier and bakery girl at Safeway, as well as a tutor before I really started getting involved in MMA, but since then I've been working full time teaching and managing ZUMA.
