TRAINING: We usually train twice in a day, morning and evening for our conditioning and skills. We interchange cardio, sparring, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, grappling, and sometimes we train while having fun such as playing soccer, probably to lighten our heavy training almost every day.
When and why did you start training for fighting? I started training in 2007 and started fighting in 2008. I joined Wushu Sanda because it was offered as one of the scholarship programs of the school that I was attending, then eventually it became my passion and then I started winning for our province and eventually our region in the Philippines.
What ranks and titles have you held? Though it is a low rank, I still feel proud about it. Regional and National Gold Medalist for Wushu (Sanshou).
Do you have any heroes? No
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? As a young martial artist, I dreamed of fighting in the biggest MMA promotion in the world. I watched the UFC fights and dreamed of fighting in the Octagon and now it is a dream come true for me to fight in the UFC at last.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? Yes, I just graduated with a BS degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management at the University of the Cordilleras here in Baguio City.
What was your job before you started fighting? I was still a high school student as a scholar of my school when I started fighting.
Specific accomplishments in amateur competition? I have a 2-0 record in my amateur MMA competitions. I have earned gold medals in the Wushu National Championship in the Philippines.
