TRAINING: I have started to break up my training so every day is different. Today I woke up by eating a fist full of nails and then I wrestle a few grizzly bears. Tonight I'll swim with sharks to make sure I've harnessed my spirit animal.

When and why did you start training for fighting? It started three years ago as a hobby, training in jiu-jitsu. Then jiu-jitsu gave me the confidence to step into the ring, and one thing led to the next. It just started snowballing and now I’m just riding it out – we’ll see where it ends up.
What ranks and titles have you held? Purple belt in Machado jiu-jitsu, Pan-American Gold medalist, Grappler’s Quest gold medalist.

Do you have any heroes? Randy Couture was an amazing fighter. He always showed a lot of class and a lot of heart, and I could always appreciate him. And of course, the Gracies and the Machados. Their contribution to mixed martial arts is undeniable and they took it to the next level.

What is your favorite technique? I like to mix it up a bit and be as confident and comfortable as possible, standing up or on the ground.

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? I started off watching the shows back in the day and some videos here and there, and I just woke up one day and said, ‘I can do that.’ I started training, and to be knocking on the doorstep of the Super Bowl of the sport, that’s as big as it gets. It’s a dream come true for me and it’s gonna be a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to it and I appreciate the opportunity.

What was your job before you started fighting? I’m a custom tattoo artist. I design body suits and sleeves for people.
